Things are a bit tricky again

I’m glad things are going better. Agree you could work towards rasping a little yourself. Perhaps in future when things are more settled.

I could ask him but I’ve literally never done it before so I’d be so worried about getting it wrong!
That's fair, and I am not sure that it'd be the best plan anyway given your worry. I'd think that he's not changing so drastically over 3 weeks and that cycle could work, but I don't know the horse, the specific issues (in person), and whatnot.

I have actually been trimming one of mine every 5 days, and that is moving her angles fantastically.

If you can ask your farrier to show you what to do, and especially if he is open to you sending before and after photos ( even if you have to pay for his time) . it really can help. As long as you don't go mad and take loads off( which I am really sure you woudn't !) you can't actually go too far wrong if you are just following a recent professional trim. It's not like you are totally going it alone and clueless.

Just wear decent gloves!

Another update from me as we are nearing the time for me to get back on (eeeek!!). He had a full set of shoes put on a few weeks ago and my god, what a difference. The main thing that made me realise he wasn’t right was his aggression, launching for anyone who came past his stable, not wanting to be touched anywhere, really food aggressive in the field and stable.

Well, he’s like another horse. He’s so sweet now. I try and not disturb him when he’s eating as I’d get ears back, tail swishing, teeth coming towards me and sometimes even the back end spinning round (he’s never kicked me but it was a definite warning). Normally if I needed to bring him in whilst he was eating, I’d have to wait until his field mate came and shooed him off the hay before he would let me near him. Yesterday he was eating his hay in the field and I just went up to him and put his headcollar on and not even a pinned ear!!

He has also been an absolute saint to handwalk. We’ve been building it up very slowly and he’s just been like a lamb. Which is such a relief after handwalking Nova, which was more like trying to put a firework in a box.

I am just so pleased with him. He’s looking amazing too - like a proper chunky connie now compared to the weedy baby that came to me (though he is still very, very dark for a 6 year old!!).

I was very naive to how much difference the feet can make.
