Things you see that really gets to u

Oh and another one that not everyone will agree with - I hate really tightly done up flash or grakle nosebands. They must be so uncomfortable.

Don't mind horses having a bite of grass with a bit in its gob. After all it gives me a moment to have a ciggie break

(only kidding lol)

I think my worst experiance was jumping a rather large practise fence to find a child on a pony sat on the other side luckily my horse did a swing to the right and avoided a serious accident my Grievance a little pony in the warm up arena for the big horses when the soonest class she could have been in was three down the line

One of my HUGE pet hates is when people can't get their horse onto an outline, they just stick in a stronger bit, use more hand.. Who cares about learning to ride the horse properly, or schooling the horse properly? Just wack in a stronger bit, or some other nice gadget... (Of course, training aids and stronger bits have their place but they are no substitute for good riding.. Especially if the horse doesn't need said bit/training aids..)
Another pet hate is ground manners. I cannot believe the amount of people who have bolshy horses, and the people tolerate it?! Some horses of course are bolshier then others, but surely, when your horse constantly just walks through you, stands on your toes and has no respect for your personaly space, would you not do something about it? It is something that can be dangerous if you horse decides to just walk through you and knock you over at the wrong time.. Or barges past some poor person that you have asked to feed your horse in the morning etc? Its an accident waiting to happen..
I will stop with my pet hates now, I will be here all night

People - mounted and not, standing around in the warm up arena IN THE WAY, when they could stand ANYWHERE else... grrr! Especially when they crowd around the entrance to the ring when they're not in any time soon, and you're trying to get into the ring because you've been called and they look at you like you're insane bringing your horse so close to their precious mount that their lounging around on right in the bloody way!

Adults who let their kids 'play' in the warm up arena.... the warm up arena with horses still warming up in it! o.o So frequently see little kids going in, 2 on the ground, 2 on ponies kinda thing, putting up the fences and racing around... yet if one of the older riders or adults was jumping and something happened to one of those kids, you can imagine who'd get the blame? :/
And them using the dressage warm up for mounted games practice while you try to work in... and you're thinking how they should really be putting their wonderfully expensive dressage ponies away in the lorry after such lovely tests rather than racing around, no? :P

Eh. I don't hate kids really... that much... just parents who dont know the meaning of 'responsibility' or have any control over their children!

horses/ponies being used as seats (ie: sat on all day long even when not competing)

[/ QUOTE ]

I have to keep my horse moving all day, she won't stand in a lorry by herself or tied to the side, so unless I have a second horse with me then I have no choice at all. I know it is bad manners but unlike kicking or something I'm prepared to put up with it, she's good in every other way so I don't think it's worth getting her upset about.

'Oh and another one that not everyone will agree with - I hate really tightly done up flash or grakle nosebands. They must be so uncomfortable'

Sometimes they are done up tightly for a reason, if a grakle or flash was on loose whats the point of it being there??
I ride in trainers but then its my best mates yard so no one else sees,
I cant stand the 'all the gear no idea' crew nd sadly these days it seems to be that 95% of people around fit into that section.

Being who should be setting example riding with out hats! They want a slap!!

People who over bit/tack horse because it looks cool..

Grrr and Sodexo,.. but that not horsey

haa haa haa how funny!!!!! made me giggle.

glad you and your horse were ok

Horses/ponies wearing strong bits or gadgets when they obviously don't need them.
Flashes fitted too low.
Martingales so loose that they are pointless.
Droopy browbands.
Bits fitted too low.
Rough, unsympathetic riders.
Fat riders on light weight horses.
Novices who constantly ask advice but do the opposite to what has been advised, and continue to do so even when not following advice has been to their cost. Why bother asking?
People who go out and buy horses without even knowing the very basics of horse care.

This is really annoying but seems to happen at every show/venue that I've been to.

when i am at pc polo.... a beautiful new dark blue oakley lorry turns up... argy groom gets out... leads out three little fluffy ponies!

Lol... I think I am just jealous!

[/ QUOTE ]

just what I was going to say, complete jealousy, normally junior BSJA in my case!

snooty overhorsed young girls who dont thank you when you hold a gate open for them, same girls dont even raise a hand when you pass them slowly and carefully in your car!!!!!! oh am thinking of fitting an ashtray to my saddle

Smoking on horseback.
Excessive use of the whip.
Swearing/growling etc in the ring. If it hasn't been your day, deal with it with grace.
A

People generally mistreating their horses by way of kicking and use of whips for no good reason, seen it so many times over the years on so many innocent looking horses and ponies doing nothing to deserve it at shows, particularly from children

beating a horse for refusal when it s actually incorrect riding on the riders part
horses tie around the neck with a headcollar when tacking up
horses tied to a horse box at a show and left alone
and if it counts inexperieneced people that havent got a clue buying young horses
and people letting there horses get obese
people overworking there horses
people using mobile phones on horses
and impolite horse riders (people that dont say thanku in any way shape or form)
small kids on big horses at shows
fields plasered in ragwort

think thats it moan git arnt i !!!!!

The riders who decide to practice their gallop within a hair's width of you when you have taken your horse to the far end of the showground to chill out because it has just had a hissy fit.
smirk.gif
Usually in that situation there is more than enough room to go nowhere near each other!

people buying very expensive show jumpers, and then only riding them once a week and i don't mean people who work full time the specific person i have in mind is 16 and daddy bought a very expensive horse that she cannot ride and makes very little effort to do so and yet daddy says she's so dedicated she deserves a horse HA! also hate grackles and flashes too low and loose, jumped up kids who think they know everything and the same kids having a huge string of horses/ponies to jump 2'6. And finally for now
wink.gif
people who jump 90cm classes when they are also winning at 1.10 on the same horse

People ignoring red / green ribbons in tails
Abuse of the horse because the rider is frustrated
Abuse of the kids because the Parent is frustrated

and two more contraversial ones.... *puts on bulletproof vest*

People with long hair riding- especially competing- with their hair loose (I'm old school Pony Club
tongue.gif
)
Very large riders on horses who struggle to carry their weight

Riders sawing with their hands
Horse full of gadgets which good schooling would sort
Flash. drop, grackle nosebands fitted too tightly
People who don't bother having backs, teeth, tack etc regularly checked
Horses being whipped or punished for rider error at shows
People who see their horses as machines and not living, breathing sentient beings
Obese horses

def. the snotty kids thing! One place I go, the parents are just as bad though! People who do the walk and trot test as a warm up on their higher level horses when it's supposed to be for people with young/inexperienced horses/riders! People that have a strop when someone with a shaggy shetland gets placed higher than them in a charity show that's supposed to just be for fun!! (Last week took my shettie to a charity show to get him out and got placed and one of the people walked out!!!!) grr. Obviously any form of abuse/cruelty towards horses at shows and in general.

I can't believe the amount of things I do that annoy people!!!
blush.gif

My horses regularly munch when tacked, I put a headcollar around their necks when tacking up, I (before I gave up) smoke on horseback, I occassionally answer my phone, I get on from the ground on Zoom (I can't get her to stand still whilst getting on without rearing so have to kind of vault into the saddle whilst she's moving off, a work in progress) and I am now MAJORLY worried that my flash/martingale may be fitted too loose/too tight!

Things that annoy me:
Fat horses!!
Fat unworked natives being fed mix
People that don't poopick
mad.gif

Snotty little children beating the crap out of the ponies
People who balance with their hands (esp. when in strong bits)
People being rude to their parents who have bought/groomed pony just because they didn't win.
MOST OF ALL - people who don't listen!!!! I don't presume to know everything but I can't stand novices who carry on regardless of the advice being given.

Incidentally - If anyone sees me at a show, and my martingale/flash/grakle is too loose/tight, please take me aside and tell me in a POLITE manner. I am worried now!

That's no different to people who do the Prelim as a warm up for the Novice. What annoys me is when you see people out who are doing BD (and have points) but are able to compete in unaffil because the show rules stats "must not have more than X points at BD". Why would you *want* to do unaffil and simply pot hunt when you do BD and have points?!
mad.gif

People who sit at Prelim forever and ever, getting 70% plus in every test but won't move up a level because their test won't get 70% in Novice. Give the rest of us a chance!!!
mad.gif

TBH, apart from the obvious things like cruelty, it really is only general unsportsmansip like the above that really annoys me.

QR - I don't strap my horses mouth shut when/if he is wearing a crank/flash/grackle, as i want him to be able to move his head a little and not feel completely tied down. Obviously it isn't done loose, but it doesn't cut into his skin, and he can stretch a little in it. But then I am concerned about him being compfrtable and happy, whilst also preventing tongue over bit/jaw crossing.

Loose martingales - just, what is the point?!
People who don't know their horses breeding, so just make it up - Oh yes, my horse is a WB x Trakhener (er, no, it is a coloured lw cob you bought off the gypsies when they were last in).

In the middle of a freezing cold winter, people leaving their fully clipped out horses tied upon the yard without anything over their backs. They wouldn't stand there naked in -5 temps when its windy and horrible and neither should their poor horse!!

People who ask what you do with your horse and then when you reply 'hacking' just seem to totally dismiss you as a numpty because you aren't out every weekend at some show or another.

Another one is people who keep telling me that my boy is wasted because I don't do dressage with him anymore and just hack out with him. Do they really think he cares that he doesn't go to dressage now, do they think he spends all day crying in his field because he doesn't go to dressage?

Given the option do they think he would (a) rather be in the field with his pals eating grass, or (b) pratting around in a dressage arena for 5 minutes and they tied up in a wagon for 5 hours? (Slight exageration there but you get where I'm coming from).
