why?

'eating with bits in their mouths'... bit harsh lol

ummmm probably the one that gets me going are when you see kids in the ring with their ponies and their parents outside the ring, shouting and critizizing them. i mean kids lk 7-9 yrs old, they dont need it. let them enjoy i say, and instead of a well done they get a ''well your reins were allover the place and if you troted her on more in your show you could of gone up a place' its constructive critizizum but kids that age dont need THAT much.

People smoking on horseback!

Oh and not something I have seen at a show but on tv last night, a natural horsemanship instructor WALLOPED a horse across the hindquaters with a carrot stick type thing then proceeded to say " It doesn't matter how many times you hit them if you rub it away........it never really happend"

that infuriated me!

Because i dont think its a good idea eating a load of grass or hay with a bit in the mouth. It all gets wrapped round the bit, could get stuck. Today i saw a horse with a tight flash and loads of grass hanging out of its mouth it could not eat it and the rider had to get off and undo the flash and pull it all out.

I agree with smoking think it looks a little common.

rubbish uneducated riders punishing horses for getting it wrong when appallingly presented at a fence, for example. socking horses in the teeth, losing temper with them, etc etc.
mounting from the ground (see my rant in Horse mag!), dragging saddle down as they heave themselves up. (all respect to anyone who can vault on, however.)
any kind of abuse of the horse, be it through ignorance, or deliberate.
horses eating with bit in doesn't even register, sorry! i've never yet seen one choke with a bit in, but i've seen quite a few do it without!
things that are just accidents waiting to happen - horses tied directly to gates with no string to break etc.

so what? at least the rider got off to take the grass out of the mouth

Its just my opinion !! the title says things that get to you it may not bother others but i dont like it and i dont let any of my horses do it.

Horses/ponies being yanked in the mouth......not being ridden correctly. Over-bitted horses/ponies that, as a consequence, have their jaws nearly broken by very bad riding.

nose bands which are too low and most incorrect tack...oo and hair not tied up what happened to hair nets?!!! ponies which are clearly unhappy and hating it!!

sorry to point out i smoke on horse back, let my ponies eat whilst tacked up!! sorry!

oo i agree with the parents riding ponies in before child is sat on top!!

When children at shows think they rule it and charge the ponies around and into yours when it is obvious your horse is all ready quite excitable.

A year or so I was at the RIHS and was watching the Small Intermediate class about to start. A girl was sitting on a nice bay horse waiting. The horse was snoozing and looked chilled out and a bit bored. The class was called and the rider picked up her whip, turned it over and belted the horse with all her might saying to her mum she needed to 'wake it up'. The mum saw me looking on shocked with mouth hanging open and just shrugged and said 'poor horse'.

I wish I could have thought of a better response but was so shocked. I just said 'Jesus Christ poor bl00dy creature, is it really that important to you?'. Should have said a lot more

So I would say that people who whip their horse when all it had done was have a snooze!

Kerrili, The mounting from the floor never even crossed my mind. I quickly read your letter in the horse mag and now i can see why! from now on i will be using something or someone to help me on in future.

people yanking the bit out of their horses mouth when untacking rather than kindly letting the horse slide it out.

people who cant control their horse when adjusting stirrups or girth whilst mounted

people who treat other peoples horses like second class citizens if they are caring for them

small children on ponies with every gadget under the sun attatched to said pony with no idea how to use any of them or how to ride

when i am at pc polo.... a beautiful new dark blue oakley lorry turns up... argy groom gets out... leads out three little fluffy ponies!

Lol... I think I am just jealous!
