...not soft enough to be doing anything just yet but...

My boy really is not talking to me at the moment! - Literally!

He's currently out 24/7 and I'd planned to continue all winter if poss. but this weather is attrocious and although he has a mediumweight on, there isn't any decent shelter in his field. He gets hay at night and although I have to drag him back to the field after his tea, I leave him, happy enough, munching through his hay...

I would bring him in, but for a number of reasons I'd rather leave it. firstly, I've lent his stable out to another livery with an older horse who needed more room and my boy won't fit in his box!! - there is a spare box but it means entering negotations with the y/o, which I'd rather not have to do at the mo! and secondly, my body is quite enjoying the break from mucking out after a year of doing it twice a day for my filly who was on box rest!

arghhhh... if I can just make it through til Crimbo or the new year, I'll be happy... I must stay strong...

A friend always used to say to me: "Horses are not like washing - you don't need to bring them in every time it rains!" However seeing a drooping wet neck usually pulls at my heart strings and I give in.

If it makes you feel any better, my horses all have field shelters - and guess what ..... they are standing outside in the rain.

It is wet, but it isn't actually that cold so they should all be fine!

If it makes you feel any better my TB and welshie have hunter clips and are out in this (with rugs off course) and my yearling is out completely rugless with only natural shelter

All our herd are out without rugs except the old Arab girl as she's feeling the damp this year. There is loads of hedge/natural shelter but they are all happily grazing well away from it
