You have my sympathies, I had a similar decision with Milly when she was cushingsy & laminitic & finding it difficult to get around, but still perky & shiny.
Just remember the horse you knew a few years ago and compare it to now and it may make your decision easier. He's certainly had a great innings and couldn't ask for more love & attention I'm sure.
I love my farrier, he has just come out and told me not to be so pessimistic! He has replaced the slipped shoe and pony seems a bit more comfy.
Farrier pointed out the pony had ears forward and was munching away at his hay, he also tried to headbutt the farrier, all normal behaviour.. I will carry on with the bute and reasses and talk to the vet on Mon
This pony has more lives than a cat, I have lost count of the number of 2nd chances I have given him.
I will not let him become old and frail but hopefully he can have a little while longer, even if it is just weeks rather than months.
What a sad decision to have to make, I hope the two of you have a lovely weekend together. He's reached a grand old age and you should be proud of yourself for helping him keep going for so long. I think you're doing the right thing, I wish you all the best...
I'm sure Ted will be happy as I expect you will be planning a banquet for him full of "forbidden foods" for his final weekend, I know I did with one in the same situation.
