For Doug I only own two rugs, a turnout with no filling and a cooler so tbh, I dont really know much about rugs

I am having him all clipped out this year as he will be in a lot of work so will get sweaty quickly. He has always had a big thick winter coat which has kept him warm so will this mean that he will need a very thick rug as he will have all his hair clipped?

I dont really understand rugging at all

Would someone be able to make a list for me as to what I will need for this winter on a fully clipped native pony

Rambo/rhino or weatherbeeta it would have to be for me - would gegt a medium weight poss with a neck cover and a lighter stable rug (the weatherbeeta jasper is good) then you can layer the rugs as needed but you still have two waterproof outer layers so you could have one drying and one on the pony. If pony lives out 24/7 then might be tempted by a heavier turnout or mediumweight stable just for a little bit extra on colder nights

Turnout wise - the turnout with no filling will be your lightweight turnout, and then I recommend a medium weight turnout with detatchable neck. No doubt that some people will say he needs a heavy weight turnout too, but I am more of the 'wait and see' club. A fully clipped native may or may not need a heavyweight, depending on how well he keeps heat, how mild a winter it is etc. If winter comes along and he seems a tad on the cold side then you can always purchase him one then, rather than buying him one now, possibly never using it and wasting money!

DO NOT Mention the W word, we are still in the middle of Summer (Supposedly anyway!)

I have rugs for EVERY occasion so I should be able to help but will you be stabling the Ginger beast at night as that will determine my answer as to what you need

I prefer to layer my rugs.

So instead of buying a thick thick rug i would prehaps buy a few thinner rugs and then layer. Only because you have more options if it is warmer one night for example.

My lad is a native, who i clip out fully. I own
1x middle weight. stable
2x heavey weight stable
1x thermatex rug stable
1x duvet haha stable
1xfleece
and then some other cooler rugs etc.

1x l/w turn ou t
2x middle weight turn out (only have two due to both being broken)
1x heavey weight.

I just seem to collect rugs i ave a few more i think but i do pretty well from what i have flint is never chilly

I think you should get a Rambo Duo, they are expensive but are well worth the money. It would probably work out cheaper if you are planning on buying a whole rug wardrobe as it can be used in 5 weights (100g - 500g)in one and will last a lot longer then some of the cheaper rugs.

You can also use the liners under a light weight stable rugs and make it up to any weight.

Charlie has had his for a couple of years now and I'm planning on getting another one if his was ever damage beyond repair!

Whoaa is that how much they are now

I think Premier Equine do a similar one for a fraction of the price, never tried their rugs so not sure what they are like!

Not quite the same I know but my each of mine have, roughly! - obviously you can work out the unnecessary items with ease!

1 x 12 oz turnout with neck
1 x 12 oz turnout without neck

1 x 6 oz turnout without neck

2 x lightweight turnouts without necks

Soon to have... ... 2 x Fly rugs with necks

3 x Fleeces

And that's it, quite restrained me thinks

I don't bother with stable rugs as I find an extra turnout is more useful if they get completely drenched and they can wear those in the stable too, so I find they are worth the extra money.

I also have an extra 2 turnouts (1 medium weight, 1 light weight) for my three who wear the same size to share as they are obsessive rug rippers.

I also find it useful to have two of everything in case I need to wash and/or repair them or if they simply get wet.

Makes wise I can recommend Masta, Shires, William Funnel - Royston range and Premier Equine.

light stable rug or thermatex. Medium weight and heavy weight stable. medium turnout with either a fleece to go underneath or a separate heavyweight. I would make sure to have either a cooler or thermatex so if hot/wet you can dry thenm without catching achill. Personally I always have a coolere as bottom layer so if they do sweat /get damp they don't sit with wet stable rug next to their skin for a day or two.

As I'm a bit rug obsessed

I suggest you get Doug the following:
A thermatex/coolex/thermacell rug for the stable (I use this in place of light and medium weight stable rugs as well as after exercise),
A stable rug (300g/360g combo, you can fold the neck back if you don't need to use it),
Turnouts with good detachable necks are very useful.
A LW (110g) turnout rug,
A MW (220g) turnout rug,
A HW (360g) turnout rug.
You could easily buy the above for £250 and it would mean you have spares if you need them.

Try to buy rugs with a 1200 denier ripstop outer as they are much tougher. Also make sure they are breathable.

Use Ebay and shop around online to find the best deals and you can save heaps of money.
Make sure you stick to the well known makes if shopping on Ebay as there's some not so good rugs advertised cheaply on there.

Mine mostly have Weatherbeeta and Fal rugs although they also have a couple of Rambos too, but go with whatever make fits Doug best.

My two have loads of rugs each (10 and 12) but to be honest I only ever use one or two of the turnouts and one indoor rug.

what breed is doug then i may be able to help better but persnally if he his giung to be toatlly clipped out i would say nothing lighter than a middle weight!

If it were me I would have for him 1 x 100g standard neck turnout for October/Novemberish time, then I would have a 240g/300g Mid/Heavy weight for Jan/Feb when its more bitt, you can then use your 100g rug in March then when its warmish again put your lightweight on. In the stable I personally would pick a 180g to 220g for the winter nights, and a 80g for the Oct/Nov/March months. Thats my own personal opinion- other may tell you something different.
