Seriously, I am thinking of giving up, I want to cry. I just want to get rid of my yard, my liveries, and my horses :( I feel like I constantly bash my head against a brick wall, it is horrible.

Ahhh no, what has happened?

I get like this every winter, in fact I decided to give up last winter, but I couldn't loan out both horses and only got rid of one livery, so I still have 3 in and 3 living out ... it's still too much in the winter for me :(

The dark, the weather and the bl**dy mud

Chin up (((( hugs )))) :) soon be spring (ish!)

No, no, no, no!! You can't, you run your yard brilliantly from what I have read, your horses are amazing and you are a fab rider! Take a break/Holiday if you can or look into getting some part time help so you can have some easier days.

We all have down days, weeks and even months but giving up will just make you more unhappy as I know how much your horses mean to you!

Have a hug ((((()))))) I'm here if you want to talk!

NOOOOOO!!! After how proud of your boy you were the other day and how much he has improved, I don't think so!!!

I'm sure you must be having one of them days so pull yourself together and remember how lucky you are to have what you've got :)

I know I know. It is just hard especially going into winter :( Just feel that nothing much going right at the moment (apart from my dressage superstar of a horse :) )

You don't sound like the sort to give up.

Stop talking daft, we all go through the mill at times.

The feeling will pass, trust me! :)

PS. oops sorry I forgot to offer either a (((huge))) or a virtual ~slap~

I'll let you decide

You need to find something else to focus on, if you can, away from the yard....

Any others hobbies you can turn your hand to?

I got into painting a few years ago when I felt I was on a hiding to nothing, and it helped lift my gloom and wanting to give it all up....

It's worth a thought....:D

At least you have a dressage superstar horse x I feel like my two are still stuck between prelim and novice even after spending a fortune on lessons / comps etc and now cant ride all week because its too dark in eve. Mud everywhere already ..... sorry I am not helping am I!

Is there not a club already on H&H for those that are self diagnosed SAD sufferers ! Because I am sure its a natural side effect of having to look after horses through winter. Have a hug from me anyway I know how you feel.

If it is the winter blues I may have the perfect solution - take up hunting! I used to get very depressed in winter and found it hard to stay motivated with the horses, and agree with Mardymare that a lot of us horsey types may suffer SAD with the unadvoidable grind of winter.

I took up hunting 5 seasons ago and I now prefer winter to summer, and even look forward to it as know that 2 days a week I will spend quality time with my horse that loves hunting, in the company of good friends, enjoying the beautiful welsh/shrops hills - even when galloping through thick mud in the pouring rain. It also motivates me to keep my horse fit and justifies all the endless hard work.

If it is not the winter blues, I hope that you are just having a bad day and maybe after a good night sleep will wake up feeling that it is all worth it....

Nope he is off to Oldencraig..didnt realise Pachesham was on! :)

Well, I suspect that your horse is competing at a much higher level than mine :o - we have made a very last minute entry for some w&t - our first ever, egads!

Anyway, chin up and stay warm - I used to hate winter, but now I appreciate the coldness, crispness and cosiness in equal measure.

x

Nope he isnt! He won his first novice on Sunday :) with 70%!! Clever pony!

Sidney, I do hunt :) I have my friends horse this season whilst my anorexic tb learns to eat...I love it :) It is the best way to spend the winter x

No, don't give up! It is difficult at this time of year but it sounds like you're doing really well.

Incidently, where are you based? I have a feeling you may be near me and I may be able to offer help or hugs! PM me if you prefer.

Hi R2R,
When lifes little annoyances get you down and you feel in the depths of despair, compare your life to that of a wheelchair user and think how lucky you are - this always does the trick for me.

Remember - chocolate eaten in the dark contains no calories - (stolen from another post)
Best wishes

I was told something very similar whilst snivvling into my wheelbarrow this morning, made me feel 100% worse! Sorry Bryndu, but (for me anyway) theres nothing worse than being told that others are worse off when all you want to do is crawl under a rock and stay there!

R2R, if I can be of any help (even just dispensing tea/coffee/ciggies/choc) please pm me - if were in the same area obv! - I know what you mean about giving up, I stood in a box today and thought 'do I really want to be doing this???'

Chin up, get the hip flask out and take a good pull! xx

Blimey Rosehip - you were obviously in a VERY dark place -sorry for that. My post was written in a kind voice, but obviously can be read with a shouty voice which was not my intention. I think if the rock is made of chocolate, 'tis best to crawl under and eat your way out!

Hey Rosehip,
Toblerone does it for me, but for the authentic rock shape this years must have is Ferrero Rocher!!! :)
Is this helping R2R?

Chocolate ... did I hear the Choc word? is it a chocolate party? can I join in with my tin of quality street? if it cheers me up - I don't care how fat it makes me :)

Hey Lolli (is that a chocolate Lolli?)
Although this is officially R2R's misery party, the chocolate thing appears to be swinging. I hope R2R is takin the chocolate advice and feelin a whole heap better. Chocolate lovers offer such good advice don't you think?
Bring your tin, any of the purple ones left?:)
