This is my first rant on here so please please let me do it. I have bottled this up for 3 days.

I would expect, on full livery, at the very least, to have:

i) my horse checked everyday,

ii) to be safe in the knowledge that she has all her feed and not bullied out by other horses so she goes without,

iii) to have my stable mucked out everyday, properly, and not have a slice of straw scattered to cover the substandard work I constantly came across which is why I had to do it all every Saturday despite paying for the job to be done,

iv) that when I buy head collars and other things for my horse, not to be compelled to keep them in my car to save them being used and damaged on the filthy floor,

v) that when I ask to have my horse brought in during the day to actually have that done and not pretend to have done it just because I would not know any different,

vi) to have my horse checked every day, including her weight, so when I return from a 3 week holiday she is not a bag of bones. What if I had gone away for a month?!

This is what I came back to on Saturday after being away for 3 weeks:

Needless to say, I moved her today and she is settling in nicely. I have had to go out and buy Equi Jewel and several extra bales of hay to sort her out.

Jesus - what is with some people!?!

OMG thats really bad hope she gets some weight on her soon. What a bad yard esp when you pay them to look after your horse, what did they say any reasons. They cant have thought you would not have noticed her weight loss.

Disgraceful behaviour   I would not be happy about paying my livery bill if I came home to that!

Well done for acting quickly and getting her of that yard!

That is really awful. Sorry to hear its happened, I def would have had to of said something. What on earth have you been paying for otherwise? Dreadful

Jeez!!! I'd have thrown the book at them and said I'm seeking advice from my solictor. I'm glad you've moved her and let local horsey people know about the substandard care she's had.:mad::mad::mad:

So what did the livery yard have to say? Yes-fairly dreadful assuming she is not normally a poor doer or any medical probs.

Bl00dy he!!...

Was it the place she normally lives at?

Sorry, just trying to think how a place could/would let a horse get like that.

The Equijewel is brilliant. We feed the 'hard to put on weight ones' that and Releave. Good for steady weight gain and no fizz (has worked with a DWB and a couple of TBs).

Disgusting...makes you feel that you can trust no-one. If they cant be a#### to provide a service, then they should pack up altogether. I can imagine that full livery isnt cheap and now theyve lost a good chunk of revenue...dont people want to earn money these days. And earn it with pride and dignity I may add.

I know its serioulsy negligent. She wanted 4 weeks notice pay or she said she would keep the horse. Unfortunately she was also negligent in providing a contract thus couldn't rely on any notice clause. I told her to swivel. She was pretty angry at that - although I can only assume this as she sent her husband to confront me whilst she hid in the car.

Her sister emailed me about an hour ago saying "poor poor horse to have such unknowledgable owner - get some lessons too" - I decided not to respond. It would be too tempting to go for broke on that.

She has had 3 liveries leave her in the space of 1 month, its no wonder.

Are they BHS approved? If they are then contact the BHS with all your evidence.

Ha! Nice try - unfortunately not or I would have done something. To be honest, if I antagonise them a tit for tat spat will occur and I can't be donig with corresponding with her. I just want to forget about that yard.

I would be fuming to say the least...well done for moving so fast! I cant believe the owner wanted 4 weeks notice..cheek or what!

That is without a doubt, taking the absolute p*ss. When you pay for a service, you expect it done. Some people really have no idea do they?

What I would say is if the yard is BHS approved (How it is BHS approved if it is, is totally beyond me!), is to report them. What they have allowed to happen is completely and utterly beyond acceptable and it must have been simply awful for you to return from your holiday to find your horse looking like that. I really hope you didn't pay your livery bill upon leaving because the b******s don't deserve your money. If they are not BHS approved, I suggest maybe looking into reporting them to your local council to conduct an inspection or something. I'm no expert on all things governmental but surely there must be some kind of regulations that livery yards offering a full livery service are required to adhere to.

In the mean time, good luck at the new yard and getting some weight back on your horse. I really wish you all the best :).

did you pay in advance?
if not Refuse to pay and report them to some sort of animal welfare organisation! Thats terrible!! Poor horsey :(

Yes I paid in advance. The next was due on 1st. Obvioulsy I didn't pay. I have contemplated suing her. I could very easily. It would be no problem. I doubt I will, my horse will be back to normal in a few weeks fingers crossed. She is 20 and can't afford to go downhill.

She'll be ok right? I don't need to worry right!?

Thank you x

what did she look like before you went?
all the muscle and fat has gone from her topline as well as ribs..... :( poor thing. they must have REALLY not fed her to get that bad.
did you pay the bill?

I wouldn't be paying my bill for sub standard work/care like that, some people are such lazy b******s

The yard I have moved to is excellent, the most settled I/we have ever been, and he gets groomed lovely, he always looks A1 when I get to the yard each day, and my tack has never been so clean.

I paid in advance so I am uptodate as of today. There was not bill to pay.

She was out in torrential rain (remember last week?) without a waterproof rug on her so one livery told me. Her feed was given with the other horses in the field so she probably never ate. No hay despite there being no grass. They said they wormed her but I don't think they did. She is 20. She gets ridden once a week so she's not well built anyway. This however, is a serious drop in weight. I know she's a TB and they are spindly but this is too far.

jezzzz some people shouldnt be around horses  tbh if i left mine on full livery at the yard im at i would expect the same thing to happen to my horse as the workers and YO dont give a *****e and dont pay any attention to what is going on in the yard!!! Id be very angry and possibly get myself thrown out of the yard haha ... What did she look like before?
