I have just put the heating on !!!! It's grey and miserable and looking out of the window I can barely see the end of the garden even the dogs are hunkered down on the sofa.
It's been miserable since I got up this morning and although we have had the odd good day this summer is pants,!!!!
I feel lucky that we made our haylege during the rare sunny spell so winter is sorted ,( the next cut will be done by our neighbouring farmer who does all our work for him to keep).
I have work to do but it's outside and I can't get on in the rain,I also need to have a bonfire as I need to clear what we have tidied up and can't do that in the rain 🌧️ ☔
The horses and the dogs as well as my husband and myself are thoroughly fed up with it all! August is never usually a good month for settled dry sunny weather so that will be the summer gone.
After the neverending winter and none existent Spring I really begin to wonder about my life choices.

Its grim, isn't it. It ofetn rains during wimbledon so thats not unusual for this time of year but its so cold. Ive had a jumper on all day and am close to putting the heating on.
August is not the best month but perhaps things will improve when the schools break up

The heating came on automatically this afternoon…it’s grey…misty..been raining. Yesterday s rain was so heavy you could ve canoed down the roads. And my dry muddy gateway with no grass has turned back to slippy clay mud reminiscent of winter and spring…very depressing.

I'm nearly ready to start my vitamin d drops again (started this during the winter as I often struggle). But it's just the cold cold weather....NY veggies aren't going to make it this year. My tomato plants are only about 20cm high if I'm lucky.

Today has been the first day I've gladly worn shorts. At least the sun has shone for the majority of the day and has been cool but warm enough for shorts. I cursed last "summer" but it was by far better than this year!

I was just coming on the forum to see if anyone else is really struggling with feeling depressed in this grey weather, so a timely thread for me.

I’ve not ridden since the weekend, I’ve got no motivation to do anything at all and I just want to go to sleep. I really struggle in the winter because of the relentless grey weather, and summer is meant to be a couple of months I get a break from it.

The way the weather affects me is quite worrying. I just seem to sink into a hole when it’s grey.

Sick of it! Got soaked out riding twice this morning and gave up before I rode the last one as I was sick of being soaked. It’s definitely cooler as my arthritic thumb is aching again and actual mud is now appearing! It’s meant to be July fgs!!

Today was the best day we have had since last week dry and warm and a bit of sun, tomorrow looks cloudy but at least no rain for now.

It literally feels like we have had no summer at all.

I am fed up too.. wet dogs every day, they like a nice walk but two of them hunker down in the rain, they don’t like it . I am running out of coats as they take so long to dry out after a downpour, and boy can it rain here in Wales. No horses any more , but think this summer would have finished me off after the winter of mud

Just got in from doing the horses I was wearing a waterproof jacket over a fleece with Welly boots and a fur trapper style hat I got soaked! The horses are hunkered down in the he pole barn refusing to go out even though there'd is grass out there so I have scattered some haylege along the back wall so they have something to eat as I haven't seen them out much all day.
I let the dogs have a run in one of the resting fields ( which they did enjoy) so have had to towel them both down .
We are all now hunkered down for the night and it's so gloomy we need the lights on !!
So much for summer!

Glad I got my hay made.

Yesterday was biblical rain in the lakes. The rivers etc are all very high. If it carries on like this and the water tables don't go down I think we might get massive flooding again. The rivers in Cockermouth and Keswick were at winter levels yesterday. I hope we don't get destructive floods again

It's been hot & sunny in my bit of the south east today, downside is horse flies were out. Anyhow s now clouded over and heavy rain forecast in the early hours so back to business as usual .

There is an upside to most things and ours is that we have plenty of grass this year. The downside is that we are sick of the cold and rain. Our hay is in, managed to get it last week after a few dry days, so no worries there thank heavens, but for goodness sake this has gone on too long now. Fed up to the teeth. We have the central heating on tonight.

I feel like no where is perfect, we have so much sun here but then there's the wildfire risk.

I did find it really hard when I last went back to the UK 10 months ago, it was grey and "close" and damp and I suddenly felt immensely claustrophobic. I didn't realise quite how much the weather effects me until I was out of it.

I’ve luckily managed to time riding with a dry spell each day & am actually liking having ground that is not rock hard. But weird wearing a cardy & horses in light turnouts.

Very hard to believe that just a couple of years ago it was so hot and dry and several parts of the country were ablaze!

I am struggling very much with the lack of sun this year, it's making me feel very low. Why isn't the high midsummer sun burning the cloud off any more?

I asked Alexa this morning if it would rain today so I could wash the bedding 'maybe' was her response so even she has given up!

This year we gave up for the 1st time and booked a last minute trip to the sun! Very unlike us, in fact we have never done a normal holiday but it has made the world of difference to us both and will be doing it again next year! Downside was, we missed our hay window, so hoping for a nice spell to at least make haylage as with all the rain there is a lot on!

I always go into squirrel mode, prepping for winter after the clocks change but I feel like I have come back straight into autumn!

Unpopular opinion, I quite like it!

Less flies, grass is growing well, ground isn't baked rock hard, pets aren't too hot and restless.
Dogs are happier.

I can sleep at night without boiling. Haven't had to get the suncream out.

Only thing I'm missing is BBQs!

Totally agree with you. My horses are all so happy in this weather, grass growing and no flies. Its good weather to work in too. Love a bit of drizzle, but then i was born near the pennines so its in my blood
