*THIS* weekend plans :p

I had fun stealing a pony this morning. Forgive the not-a-video-still with the video play thing - I didn't take it (obviously!)

Blimey, fancy coming and jumping my hooligan? :p

I haven't posted on this thread for ages, having done zilch with the "new" horse but I've gone and arranged to go hunting on Sunday! Presuming that the horse will load that is, as he hasn't been near a lorry since he arrived on that dark February night after a long trip back from Wales. I haven't even popped a fence since I tried him out but a friend has been jumping him the last couple of weeks and he's been super, so fingers crossed.

FW how did I miss the new horse? Looks lovely.
DF I've also missed your new horse news!
Hope all poorly horses start to improve and everyone has lots of horsey fun this weekend x

Have fun hunting tomorrow, everything crossed that Nelson is good for you :).

I've not officially posted about Molly - she's everything I didn't (and wouldn't if I was sane) want. 17yo, Sec D, 14hh, mare, a very rough start to life (she was bought from an auction down here as a 4yo in awful condition) and she avoids human contact unless the human is me! She's been a broodmare/companion for the past ~12 years and has basically no ridden knowledge beyond go and stop. I'm good friends with her previous owner (the one who had her to breed from) and as I'm the only person whose managed to do anything with her she's now mine. She's not got a nasty bone in her body, just very very anxious which translates itself into a weird kind of hotness. She's exactly like Maddie was when I got her as a 3yo; in terms of attitude and level of schooling.
Maddie is off until December so Molly has become 'main horse' :).
We went for a longish hack up to Cefn Bryn today, there are a few long canters so we practised going alongside another horse and not trying to run ahead! She was very good, just needs to build more muscle now.

Well that's a jolly nice horse to steal JFTD, and may I commend the owner on saddle cloth colour - very swish (got to get all the important stuff right you understand :p)

That's lovely that you could give her a home DF. Amazing hacking pictures, she looks very sweet and like she's very much enjoying herself

Great pic JFTD.

First ride on the new super cob today. Yes I am wearing a thick jacket, body protector and airjacket. Didn't put a foot wrong. And yes, my 8yr old child rode her for me first :o new lows :D. Might get her to take me out on the lead rein tomorrow! :)

Also waved the clippers at her to utterly no reaction whatsoever. Got to love an Irish brain. Tempted to defuzz her now...

Stunning scenery too DF, such a beautiful part of the world! She looks lovely. Also looking like a good purchase there, FW, sounds like she's hit the ground running :)

We had a really fun lesson yesterday, starting to feel like a really grown up horse now. Brief warm up, straight into the 4 tempis, all correct so no need to repeat :) Some work towards the canter piris, they are taking a little longer to come along just because K has a tendency to slow down around turns so needing to stay super quick behind AND turn at the same time is quite hard for her, but hopefully the basic homework we've been doing around speedy 10m circles will help back the piri work up. Started some work toward half steps introducing her to the idea (a little winter project is hatching) to get the shoulders up and finished with jet propelled trot extensions :D A highly enjoyable trip round her whole repertoire of work and she looked pretty pleased with herself by the end.

Some blurry video stills, sorry about the quality :o inexperienced camera operator! pleased to have some recent stuff on film though

I need to sit on my bum in the changes more! She's quicker to the aid now so perhaps I could sit to them a bit more, hmmmm. They were so croup high in the beginning, she used to throw me out of the saddle but they are more uphill now.

Little clip of some of it

Day off for her today. Didn't ride M yesterday as the hunt were about in the morning so she did plenty of miles boxwalking in her stable  but she can go out this afternoon. Time to catch up with Burghley for me now though! :D

Sec D, 14hh, mare,

Haha I don't really jump - haven't jumped at all in months as have nothing to do it with (again) and no balls. Just a super pony!

I had to scroll between photo and description several times to work out how that pony could possibly be 14hh!

She's a fabulous horse to steal, and I have the all clear to borrow her again too. Her owner is fabulous - but would be appalled that you're impressed with her saddlecloth I think ;) Takes pride in her unmatchy tack! (I think the saddlecloth is very smart too though!)

She looks huuuuge :D

Ran out of energy for quoting and redacting, but love the second shot of Kira :)

Oh MP, look at little Kira go!

Well today is a bit of a washout here weather wise so everyone was quite happy to come in this morning to stuff their faces with haylage. Have bought Pebbles a headcollar that us a little more field safe and less likely to rub than the one she came in. Tried to switch from one to the other and she had a bit of a panic attack so looks like I have an afternoon ahead of sitting in the stable playing horse whisperer....ah well.

She's a funny one - I assumed that she was just unhandled at first, but she's not like any unhandled youngster I've ever known. She's absolutely petrified of being touched and has had a few really over the top reactions to my small, very non reactive dogs. So amongst my three I've now got the sleepy, the super brash and the timid - it's quite strange going from handling one to the other :D

She gets quite jolly at times but there's no malice intended - she just likes exploring!

She looks great DF. You make her look about 16.2 tho!

I am short :o. And I think there are some generous angles going on with those photos!

Tempted to defuzz her now...

+1 to the defuzzing ;). She looks huge, bonus that she's lovely and sensible. Good thing this one didn't shrink on the boat over :p.

*Heart eyes* Kira is amazing <3. Don't suppose you'd fancy taking a taller, naughtier, version for schooling? ;)

Haha I don't really jump - haven't jumped at all in months as have nothing to do it with (again) and no balls. Just a super pony!

You didn't chicken out of the jump at the last minute, you have more balls than me! Any luck on the horse hunt?
Because none of you believed she's 14hh we stuck a stick on her this morning...between 14.2 and 14.3 :o. She's a good hand-and-a-bit shorter than Mads so I dread to think how tall she is now! I am also short which doesn't help :p.

Pebbles sounds like how Molly was when I started working with her. I'm not proud to admit that I resorted to clicker training with treats in the end as it was the only way to stop her immediately mentally 'checking out' when something happened that she was scared of/didn't like/had bad memories of. If she's not inclined to be nippy then it's something worth thinking about.

Yes definitely with you on that one DF - am currently wracking my brains to think of something I could use as bribery....nothing has tempted her so far except for an apple but that had to be dropped on the floor, she wouldn't take it from a hand. Have lots of raspberries here so might try some raspberry leaves...hmm

Excellent day again today!

She's just the right size DF big enough but no giant leap to get off and she's SO good! I saw an old fieldhouse saddle for sale on FB I thought would fit her and the woman brought it over for me to try (how kind!). Tacked her up and got on her. No problem at all. Woman couldn't believe I've only had her a few days and she's so chilled and lovely. She's pulled a shoe off tho but not bothered about it so hopeful we will just take them all off this week.

Also sold a pony and it's going tonight, so I am feeling very pleased with myself today!

Ha, no, things have to be pretty bad for me not to commit to a fence. I may sob, wail and swear about the prospect of jumping one, but once I'm on the approach, the leg is on and we're going over, by hook or by crook... It's just the ridiculous psychological nonsense beforehand I don't like!

Not surprised your pony is 14,2 :p Even if you're a shortarse!

Viewing one on Wednesday. Not overly convinced by anything else I've seen - mostly because my budget is too small for what I want. And that leads me back to my "need a new job" rant. Anyway... Hopefully the one of Wednesday will be nice, rideable and affordable (I doubt the last bit really!).

In the meantime, I've been over-investing in Burghley (which was terrific to watch, as usual), and spent this morning sculpting my muck heap (which is actually a pit) into a rudimentary amphitheatre. And this evening I shall either jet wash my trailer, or some other part of the yard. Sorry, that's not very competition ridery, is it? :p

Well done getting the pony sold, FW!

I'm not saying, or it will all go horribly wrong :p :D

see! I was right! Lousy migraine this morning so no dressage, and they won't swap my entries so that is £25 down the drain :( Boo, hoping to get out Wednesday evening instead - you will know about it when it happens :D :D

Not much of an update on my boy, but since the kissing spine diagnosis, repeated acupuncture sessions, physio and a clinic with a natural horsemanship trainer, we are getting there. Lots of bending work, in hand, long reining, shoulder in, leg yield etc. He can now do turn on the forehand both ways (used to always struggle swinging his quarters left but is finding it easier now). He can do shoulder in both ways, left in walk and trot, right is still sticky at times in walk. He can actually do a pirouette both ways in walk easier than turn on the forehand, but still working on that as it helps get his right hind moving more. That's all we've really done this week, and a bit of pole work on a curve which was hilarious to start off with as he's clearly never done it before and it confused him at first but he got into it. :)

Our in hand schooling is going well considering we've only had a couple of sessions, I think the boy enjoys it.

He falls on the left shoulder ridden and in hand so we've been working on getting control of the shoulders by introducing neck rein turns which can carry through to the ridden work, also made a start on some fleschi droit and circles with pronounced bend to encourage FDO as he likes to drop the contact a little and I want him to take it forward. We also started a few steps of SI which he seemed to enjoy, he was carrying himself very proudly by the end of the session.

Today we did a bit of loose work which he was bored with until I got a few poles out then he perked up.

Hope to be riding again by next weekend

What a cracking horse Tiddly! Yum yum. More pics please.

Cracking pics and smart looking horse tiddly pom
Thanks, both.

I'm super chuffed with how M and her 14yo rider are progressing. I bred M for my own use, aiming for a 16hh+ chunky monkey, but instead got a lightweight 15.2hh :o. She's now 6, and is out on permanent loan to a lovely knowledgeable family.

I've posted before how they were initially concerned about M's tendency to dangle her front legs when jumping, which could have meant her being returned to me. They have put a lot of effort in, and M's technique has greatly improved, so she's staying there.

I've no intention of ever selling M on or removing her from her loaners, but we agreed a realistic modest value for her when they took her on, and in the unlikely event that M is ever sold on, the loaners would keep any increase in value.

Enjoyed a weekend of hacking out on the stubble now our crop has been harvested. Polly thinks it's absolutely fabulous! Diva also enjoyed herself and even managed a short burst of trot, which she hasn't done much of all summer as the humidity makes her breathing worse.
Some pictures

Great pics. Love the bat emblem on her side!

Got the shoes off this morning and she's already walking better so feeling pleased. Impeccably behaved throughout as well despite it being a trailer ride to another yard.

Love seeing all the pics of the ponies, new and old!

Had a super time out with the Bloodhounds, N was a star, awesome to ride and verrrrry forward (!), my whole body is aching today. I'll definitely go again, and may even brave some jumps next time. Waiting for the photographer to upload his pics!

I'm sure we're on next week now but having just watched the kira lesson I am chuckling at the audience that doing big trot would be enjoyed by a welshie :D

I am just going to be on the doorstep one day MP ;) :D

Sounds like a fab day JB - looking forward to piccies:D so have you regrabbed your mojo now then....?

Looks like fantastic hacking Scats, and in hand work sounds like it's coming on a fair pace Wheels.

Lev - I'm not saying anything or it will all be jinxed :o

FW - that cob really is an amazing find, she just looks so kind and solid. I'm secretly hoping you won't remove those feathers though :o

Raspberry leaves were a hit with Pebbles so after progressively constructing a halter around her with a lunge line and a lot of bribery, I managed to get the headcollar on. Then I rather rashly took it off in the stable again this morning, so am off out now to try to reapply before schooling the big guy.

Lovely pics JB! He looks a great type.

Thanks Dabdab but she's getting a lot better at picking up her feet and my clipper hand is getting twitchy :D. It's the mane I can't decide about. Legs will grow back fairly quickly if I prefer furry boots but the mane is about a year. Hmmm!

Glad the raspberry leaves worked DabDab, she sounds sweet so will hopefully come round quickly :).

Great news about new girl being perfect FW, I fully support legs coming off ;). You can always make a decision on the mane after you've done her legs?

Pwp about the not-so-successful horse search JFTD - have you got a particular 'type' in mind? Good luck for the viewing tomorrow anyhow :).

Bad news about the migrane and loss of entries Lev :(.

Your girl looks awesome Tiddly, and what a nice agreement to have with the loaners.

Another who loves the batman symbol on your bay Scats :p.

I'm so glad you're enjoying Nelson now JB, you look chuffed in the photos! He's super cute too. A winter of hunting for you both?
