The RSPCA IMHO can't be expected to publically justify every equine PTS. They are inundated with reports of equine suffering and can only take in a few, so some animals which could have been saved have to be PTS as there's no room to take them in. They have just 3 specialist equine rescue centres in England, in Shropshire, Surrey and in Co Durham. They also have a network of 'private boarding' yards who take in some of the excess, and it sounds like this yard was one of those.
I'm not defending them willy nilly, they certainly don't get everything right but they do have some really good knowlegable equine staff such as the ones at their Shropshire equine centre, who I've fostered from in the past.
The RSPCA MUST rigorously investigate and treat these horses as a matter of utmost urgency. If they have been using a rogue private boarding facility, then they need to come clean and make steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again.
It appears the RSPCA already had a failed prosecution against this woman regarding a dog, yet they then used her for boarding horses.
The shame is that all the horses had the offers of new homes before Team Thor took them in. None of these horses should have ended up pts and thats happened because the RSPCA didnt bring a previous prosecution correctly, allowing this woman to carry on.
