Calling tb/racehorse experts.

Just curious really as done a little research into my new girls breeding, what do you think? (:

My new tb mare was sired by Beat Hollow, with her grand sire as Sadlers Wells and her grand dam being Wemyss Bight I was wondering if these are good blood lines?

Thank you
Immy

she's related to my lad somewhere along the line then his grandsire is Sadlers Wells too - horse and hound named him in September last year arguable one of the best ever sires :) (I haven't heard of your horses dam or sire though)

Weird to think so many horses are related somewhere along the line! Wemyss bight was a champion race mare and from my research Beat Hollow seemed to be a great racehorse! (:

Sadlers Wells is basically a modern day Sire of fashion(having taken over Northern Dancer's mantle if you will), therefore what you will find is an awful lot of his progency around. Racehorse breeding is as much good luck as good judgement obviously with a bit of help you can increase the chances of your horse being successful but it depends on the horse more than anything else.
As long as your horse is suitable for you the breeding is irrelevant. There are however some lines that have pretty strong character traits which makes them trickier than average.

One of my boys is by Storm Cat and if you're looking for quirky (or just plain scary!) then look no further. They have quite a frightening reputation!!

Just reading an article about a guy who was offered one of Tiger's half brothers, he had written;
"Yep, fancy for sure and movement to die for they said...and the disposition to help you do it. I passed"

On that note, I've heard Alflora horses are talented, tend to be worriers and very old-fashioned types but very nice on the eye. Reg fulfils this stereotype with aplomb :D

Well my girl seems to be the most laid back thoroughbred I've ever come across so not sure whether that aspect of character is a trait in her lines? (:

I don't know... I know Reg is actually Mr Chilled when he lives out and is kept so he's not got the chance to stress himself out, but can work himself into a proper tizz over absolutely nothing if he's allowed to. There's another Alflora ex-racer who events at a high level (Beau Bear) and from things said he's just the same. And they have identical faces, so it was mildly unnerving to see what appeared to be Reggie going round Burghley...

Wasn't Storm Cat notorious as being "difficult" - an understatement. From the American breeders point of view this was seen as a positive characteristic, as they thought agression would make them a better and more successful racehorse. (I read a book about American racing/breeding, one of those where a writer has spent a couple of years following owners/horses,e tc.)

Pity about those that inherited that temperament, but weren't fast enough; I wonder what the future was for them?

Sorry to hijack thread, but my tb has the same great grandad each side! Is it normal for in breeding to go? Or is this not classed as in breeding? Just interested to know!

I have a gelding by Green Desert! :) He's good looking, moves well and jumps nicely but is a bit of a fool  A bit quirky I guess, more of a worrier though rather than deliberately difficult.

Another one! Red is a stubborn naughty child when he wants to be, thats why I wondered if it was in his breeding or just how he was! He can be a bit stressy but thats more TB thing I think. I'm biased and think he's good looking and a decent mover too :)

hi my TB is Sired by Acclamation and His dam is Game Leader..... apparently Acclamations Foals seem to have the same laid back trait from what i hear from the Stud where hes kept. very easy on the eye with a stricking head and good conformations, the attitude towards life is very easy goping and not much worrys them :)

and i think this is true as my lad its exactly this never spooky and is so laid back most of the time and nothing worries him :)

Yeah mine does have a touch of the naughty child about him- I find I just have to make things black and white for him, because the more we get into a 'discussion' about things than the more wound up and stressy he gets..If he is given the opportunity to overthink things, he will! Less now, but when I first got him, what started off as fear would then turn into plain stubborness/obstinancy. Now I just try not to give him the oppurtunity to get his knickers in a twist (easier said than done) :)

Lol, I'm probably biased too :o
Got any pics of yours? Would love to see if there's any resemblance.

Green Deserts are quirky, every oneI have come across has been that way.
Beat Hollow was a good horse, and his offspring are just coming through. Pivotal has had quite a bit of success with his progeny, and also as a broodmare sire.

Sounds very familiar! Zaminda seems to have the nail on the head too...

Will dig some later piccies out, older pics are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lauraflynn/sets/72157625983301553/

My TB is by spectrum who is by rainbow quest and his dam is anns annie who is by Alzao. He is very calm sane and sensible and has good conformation for his type
Anybody who knows about racehorse breeding is always very impressed by his line but to be honest Im just really pleased he is 'normal'!!

We've had a couple of Alzao's and Rainbow Quests in the yard and one that was a cross between the 2. All of them have been pretty. The Alzao's were thicker set, quieter, sane and ok jumpers. The Rainbow Quest's daintier daisy cutters with impressive jumps and whilst cheeky had a slightly nervy disposition.

The Green Desert we had was a total donkey to deal with in every respect.

Our Alflora's were tall, deep bodied, old fashioned horses that would jump the moon for you and try their hearts out but yes, slight worriers.

The few Sadler's Wells horses we have had have been cheeky blighters who like to buck!

The one Beat Hollow we had was a qruiky sod. One day he would be a donkey another he would be unstopable. He is the same in his races - if he wants to go then he is damned good, he was 2nd at the Aintree Festival and 4th at the Cheltenham. On a non-going day he coudln't even win a seller and that's if he gets off the start line. Very good looking, stocky horse though with talent to burn.

The quirkiest one we have at the moment is a Kris Kin. They are notorious for being psychotic nut jobs to begin with until they settle. No one could stay on ours for more than 30seconds when we first got him but he is now a total bus of a ride that you could almost put your granny on.

Of my own I have a Diktat, who is by Warning, and his dam is by Primo Dominie and he is THE laziest horse I have ever sat on! For a 6furlong sprinter it's kinda disapointing lol! I also have a Vettori and of the few that I have worked with they have all been stubborn. They will do as you ask of them but in the way they want to do it. And none of them would have their manes pulled. Then I have a Lasting Approval who is a complete show off - give him a mirror and he will be there for hours fixing his hair! My final one is a French bred by Le Nain Juane who is just an absolute dream to do anything with though gets nervy when away from home.

Due to the ever increasing inbreeding of TB's you will find alot of Sadler's Wells/Northern Dacer lines and alot were then crossed with the Danehill lines to get great horses. The trouble now is that everything has these lines and it's very hard to find outcrossings.

I have an Orchestra gelding and the spitting image of him right down to the teeth grinding! He is out of a Ballyciptic mare, so he is ginger.

Mine has native dancer if anyone knows it

One of our broodmares had Native Dancer 4 and 6 gens back on the sire side, so quite a high recent concentration, it's nice to be able to trace her to the Darley Arabian through him.
She's nice and chilled, with a great work ethic, very clever but not naughty with it. My husband rides her in the years she isn't bred, and considering he's pretty much a novice she goes very nicely for him.
