Thoroughbred/racehorse experts! Good bloodlines?

My mare's sire is Heron Island, Grandsire Shirley Heights. Glad to hear that other Shirley Heights descendents have a tendency to nap and stand on their back legs! I don't feel quite so alone now!

My old gelding was Rebel King, who was by Doc Marten, out of Cape Farewell - now if I could get another relative of his, I would buy it tomorrow.

Sad really, that both me and my horse are living on borrowed time!! He is by Bairn (USA) (Northern Dancer et al) and Thorny Rose (Tap on Wood and co.).

Sadly, my silly old bugger is coming to the end of his time shuffling this mortal coil, but he did, indeed, fare somewhat better than his siblings, and is by no means as bad as he is made out to be.

23 and 49 years old and still pissing people off!!

Silly old bugger(s)!!!!

There are however some lines that have pretty strong character traits which makes them trickier than average.

BB, my poor old insane, but much loved, idiot 23 year old no-hoper (have owned him since he was on a one way ticket at 3 years old) is descended from Bairn (Northern Baby/Northen Dancer) and Thorny Rose (Tap on Wood/Sallust et al).

He was 3 years old when I bought him and is compromised in so many ways. Many would have had him shot 20 years ago. He has had his moments, but is a living sentient being along with the rest of us.

In some ways his bloodlines are impeccable. I have spent the past 20 years proving it to myself and others (though none of them believe me!)

Maybe, once we are gone, his bloodlines will have died out. Poor old bugger!

Arhh, my late old boy was by Kalaglow. Chestnut, 15.3hh with the biggest, deepest girth I've ever know on any horse. He had a heart of gold, 3 good feet, and one crap foot that didn't allow his talent to shine in any sphere. BUT, a true gem to do.

My lad is a chestnut too... :-) An photo from last year when he was building up (he was a mess when I got him) but I don't know if he's anything like your lad...

He's not a hefty gelding but when I borrowed a waffle rug from a friend (15.3 heavy weight gypsy cob built like a tank and weighing 200kg + more) - we had to let the surcingles out... A bit unreal...

He's a sweetie though...a very honest lad just very green and inexperienced...

:)

Your horse's fifth dam Persian Garden was really a blue blood & goes back to the great Mumtaz Mahal, a real influence for speed in the thoroughbred. Persian garden was a full sister to Migoli the Prix de l Arc de Triomphe winner.

Have a look at this link.....you can do a bit more digging, there are images of some of the horses too.
