Those who feed minerals

You're being done! I pay £9.60

if that's for 25kg then we most certainly are being done!!!

foxy1, not sure from your comment if you think calmag is calcium and magnesium? It is in fact just magnesium. Cal refers to calcined ie calcined magnesite.

25 kilo sack, sure is.

I used to think that about calmag too, but in fact the chemical formula of dolomite is CaMg(CO3)2, a kind of combined calcium and magnesium carbonate.

that is really interesting. I wanted to feed mg so tried magox but couldn't get past a small quantity without then starting to be runny (producing liquid manure) that was for all of them. Also the magox sent them out of their skulls.

I knew mg would improve them but it seemed impossible unless I started feeding calcium (cannot do hay analysis)
I then tried calmag and am now feeding the quantities you mentioned somewhere with no runniness problem, they are calrm, and it is working on their feet.
I wonder if that is because it has calcium in it as well then?

I was misinformed, sorry. Crushed dolomite is not calcined magnesite, which is 80% magnesium oxide and only 1.5% ish calcium oxide. Crushed dolomite is recommended for horses on acid soil, but since I now know that it isn't calcined magnesite I've no idea where anyone would get that :)

I'm glad your peeps are good on calmag, I guess it must be something to do with the "calcine"-ing process. I wonder what.

thanks for the reply and info.
I have no idea why either but perhaps it is just another thing to try for those who want to feed mg.

Australia I think......... I'll pick some up for you in exchange for the air fare... :-) :-)

For those of you that are feeding the minerals mixed by yourselves can you give us the quantity that you give of each mineral for each day. I am wanting to top up the minerals as I find thatif mine have zinc and copper they don't get sunburn but the shop only sells the Pat Coleby mix in a large volume which I don't need.
