As the Vetting showed up that he suffered from Sweetitch, I offered £1,000 which was accepted, and she passed me £1 back ...... a Romany Good Luck thing, I think

I bought my horse 6 years ago as a 15 yr old, and paid £1500 for him from a friend of the family. He would never have been sold to anybody else, even though she was offered a hell of a lot of money for him previously. We have a deal in place that should I ever wish to sell him, she will buy him back at the same price I paid for him regardless of his age, or state, but he'll never be going anywhere. The best £1500 I've ever spent!

I paid 200 for my oldenburg at 15yrs he has ataxia but I rode him up to last year just hacking. Only retired as other horses need riding more. Now 24 so 22.00 per year!!

Wish I'd kept my horse's ad! I can still see it clear as day though 14 years later! He's not really a 'golden oldie' as such as is only 18 (still young) but we paid £3000 for him all those 14 years ago. A fair bit really for a 4 yo but he had BSJA winnings which i guess put his value up. Think he was definitely worth it though - not had any real time off sick or sorry (other than the odd foot abscess) in all that time so think I got a bargain!!

I have had Red (also a Chesnut Welsh x Hackney) for 3 years. He is now 21 and I spent £1000 on him, including all his tack and rugs etc.

Dont know if Sol counts, but I paid £3000 for him 8 years ago, he's 15 now, and not really worth anything to anyone apart from me!

I have just found the Horse & Horse ad in May 2001:
16.2 handsome Irish gelding, 14 years. Retired dressage, seeks fun hacking, possibly hunt/working hunter. Quality weight carrier with stamina. Loan considered.
I remember when I brought him home for a month's trial so many people stopped (in their cars in the lane or whilst out walking) and remarked how beautiful he was and he still is... just a bit grumpy-er, with a few more grey hairs (like me!) and wants his own way (just like men do!)... and he likes his food too!
I paid £1,200 for him in July 2001. We don't do dressage (unless I press the wrong buttons) we are just happy hackers. I understand he got 6th in the Nationals at Stoneleigh in his younger days at PSG level. He even made it in the Horse and Hound too - so I wish I could have a picture/copy of that edition.
I am also in contact with his previous owner who still misses him honking at the kitchen window.

I was given my old mare by her last owner, but paid £300 for her tack when she was 22, i had 8 fantastic years with her before she was sadly pts in May 2008 at the grand old age of 30.

I could never put a price on her, she taught both me and my daughter to ride and was the best thing i have ever been given.

I bred mine 28 years ago. Stud fee was £65 he was a Cleveland Bay & mine was a TB ex race horse bought by me off the track as a 2 yr old. My golden oldie owes me nothing. She's now been retired 2 yrs. Anything I ever wanted to do with her she took me to the top & we did everything! I was offered a lot of money for her many times but money couldn't buy her. 10 yrs ago she produced a colt foal, stud fee £300. He has also taken me to the top in everything we've done. Every time I go somewhere new with him I get offered big money for him no matter what discipline we are doing. Someone once said to me (when I turned down his offer) - everythings for sale at the right price - well mine aren't! No matter what the price.

I don't know how to load a pic!

That is a shame

.... you have to set up a photobucket account and then load them into there and that will allow you to post the link to here ......

Just for the ataxia thing, its like wobblers syndrome, a nerological condition where the back legs basically dont always do what the brain tells it and can be quite dangerous for obvious reasons! So often means horses have to be retired/semi retired if its not too serious, old horse had it (didnt know and sold him, he passed a 5 stage vetting and new owner found out through an MRI
frown.gif
) so i read up on it
smile.gif

But sorry dont have a golden oldie to report on

!

I bought my oldie mare for £1500 14 years ago..and she has been a treasure and she has also produced me a fantbulous baby this year at the grand old age of 21...best money I have ever spent

I was given my 18yr old anglo arab and he was bred by Prince Jordon! I have only had him a short while though but i really wished i got him when he was younger,he is that nice! fab little horse and i bet in his day he was even more stunning than he is now,he did high level dressage up until he was 10 and you can tell when you ride him, pleasure to ride and he floats! I am hoping to do some veteran classes with him.
