What temperature do you wash at? I was thinking of putting mine on a 30 degrees wash (it’s a waterproof fly rug, I wasn’t very organised and want to wash it now ready for the spring) would 30 effect the reproofing (it doesn’t seem to effect my coat waterproofness) ? or will I be best to reproof it afterwards? I do have some Ruggles waterproofing spray I can use.

Thanks ?

I do mine by hand with a hosepipe on the yard ?
Stiff brush on the outside to just dust the worst off
Scrubby pad on the inside to get the grease off.
Have fabsil-ed a couple afterwards but most haven't needed any treatment

I do this too. I find washing machines ruin the waterproofing and a scrub with the hose does enough.

I do mine at 30° with NO detergent in the machine. I think it's been 9 years now with no apparent loss of waterproofing. I can't see the difference between water from hosing and water from a washing machine except it's a lot less effort to use the latter!

I think most washing machines have residual soap that can affect the waterproofing, even if you don’t put soap in the wash.

I hope that's only true if you use the soap dispenser.
My liquid detergent goes in a measuring cup along with the washing into the drum.
If there was a residue once the cycle had finished it would suggest that no rinse was soap free or that some of the water can flow back.

Before washing a turnout rug, I thoroughly clean the detergent dispenser drawer and then run the empty machine's 75° 'clean machine' cycle twice, firstly with detergent and then again without. That's to get rid of any traces of detergent.

The OP is asking about washing waterproof fly rugs, I think, not turnout rugs, though the title does refer to turnout rugs ?.

Don't know if it's any use for machine washing as I haven't tried it but using a dishwasher tablet in hot water has been an absolute game changer for me cleaning the inside of rugs, totally cuts through the grease super easily. Apparently it's really good for sweaty greasy numnahs too.

I don't put in machine, I hang mine on a heavy duty clothes rail and use a hose on them or jet wash, then use lincoln reproofer once dry. I use non bio for the inside with scrubber brush. then hose off and leave on rail to dry.
