But then I'm prob the wrong person to ask as my boys have been naked most of the winter. Only a small lightweight on during all that snow. I am such an evil owner ;) :p :D :D
 
During the day NO, but a night they are both still in medium weights, not because they need it on but they weren't clipped in the winter, now in work and want the coat to come out. So at night they are toasty and during the day naked so they can roll and get the loose hair out for me!!!:D
 
They were, but it was so warm last night that the rugs came off yesterday and have not gone back on. Both fully clipped over the winter and one is a TB type. Both toasty warm this morning. Rugs will go back on if it rains, but it is unseasonably warm and dry right now, so no need for them.
 
the 2 & 3yo have been living out rugged up all winter! Left them naked during the day since the weekend - but was going to leave them off for good

was 2 degrees last night so dont know whether to put them on again at night or just leave off now for good!!
 
All now naked day and night. Hoping that is it now but would pop a rainsheet or LW rug on if sub zero temperatures forecast in the next few days, just while they adjust.
 
Tonight is the night for mine.:D They have had rugs off in the day for a few days now. Old hairy girl went without last night but baby is going naked too tonight.
 
Only the ancients, it isn't cold here at the moment, think it was about -4C this morning when I took this. As always, I have no hard and fast weather/temperature/time of year rulings, everything is taken day by day, horse by horse, if it looks as if it could benefit from having a blanket on then it does, simple as that.:)

My 3 have been naked for a few days but tonight is the first night for nakedness. One has a hunter clip, one has the finest coat ever and ones a moulting mammoth... It's so warm so I'm sure they'll cope. They could do with shivering some fat off anyway :-). I can always put them back on if the weather changes.
 
No,they are in a field with plenty of grass,its the hay meadow which has been ungrazed since July. They went out into it in the day time only last month and are now out there 24/7. they are yearlings and get a small bucket feed in the mornings and hay,although they havent bothered eating the hay for a few days now. the grass is growing well.
 
Nope, not for last 2 nights.

Both been out 24/7 for past fortnight - bigger fuzzy was in MW at night & LW in day. As soon as temps went over 10 in day, then no rug during daylight & prob lw on at night. Last 2 nights big fuzzy had no rugs.
Both now in seperate paddocks at night for big one to have hay, smaller one to diet...then meet in the morning for the bigger paddock gorging :)

Caveat: Still on standby till end April to put rugs back on if temps dip drastically or lots of wet weather steps in
 
Mine have been unrugged for weeks, except in prolonged heavy rain. The two TB X's have kept a good weight through the winter and the cob, who has been fully clipped again, is wearing a rainsheet at night if its very wet or/and we have a frost. My vet has a big axe to grind about over rugging.
 
Nope all rugs came off a fortnight ago. We had a slight wobble a few days after though when we had a couple of frosts over night but they survived including the wimpy TB x Welsh :rolleyes:
 
I clipped my mare out last October so i'm naturally worried she may get a chill even now with this lovely weather, so she's out in her heavy weight threw the night as it can be quite chilly and breezy and during the day if its warm with no breeze/wind then i take her rug off, if there's a slight wind she goes out in her middle weight and then back into her heavy weight for the night! Perhaps i spoil her too much but i just worry if she gets cold she might loose weight and seeing as she's always perfect if not on the slim side, its not worth the risk of weight loss! :)

thats exactly what i would say!!! sweat the bloody coat out saves grooming lol!!
 
I onley rug one of mine, the woosey Arab, and he has'nt had one on for about four days now, :), but if it looks like it will rain then he will have it back on again.
I don't think he will get cold just because the temperature drops, but he will if it tips down.

LOL, i have one rug, it's either on, or it's off.
I am a BAD owner. :D :D
 
I took my pony's off tonight. Bad mummy as she had it on today in the heat. But she still has lots of coat. She will be ok so long as it stays dry. The others are still rugged for now.
