Those with TB's, how big is your horse and how much do you weigh?

Hattie is 15.3hh and is medium build, she's not a fine boned TB but not a heavy set hunter either! Short coupled as well so not too long in the back like a lot of TB's.

I'm 5'9" and hover around 13- 13 1/2 stone. We do dressage, showing, a bit of jumping, looooooooong hacks (like 14 mile round trip hacks to shows) - all with a side saddle and those things weigh a ton! Maybe one day we'll do Le Trec.

I've had the back lady out twice due to my own paranoia but it was a waste of money as both times they said that there wasn't really anything wrong with it and to keep doing what we are doing. I have my side saddles fitted by an excellent saddler too.

This is us at our last showing show last month so you can see that I'm not a porker and Hattie doesn't struggle with me :)

As long as you are not thumping around on it's back like a beginner, ride with a well fitting saddle and are mindful of your equitation (like EVERYONE should be regardless of weight), then you should be ok!

I currently weigh about 11st, but I do fluctuate by as much as 10st - 11st 6lb, my TB is a big old fashioned type and last time we measured him he was 17.1
I wouldn't be too bothered about how heavy you are for pottering about, below is a picture of me doing my first BE Novice on my mum's 15.2hh TB mare, at the time I weighed nearly 14stone (and I am only 5ft2!), as we got more serious I lost weight and our time xc improved, but she never ever felt like I was asking too much of her.

Thank you for that, that has set my mind at rest! Alas, I am a short arse at 5'2 so am definately a porker, but once I get riding, grooming, mucking out again I will hopefully a little less piggy like :D

I have spoken to the vet this afternoon and he said he has ridden the mare, has done more than I will be doing with her and he weighs the same as me. He is happy, the owner is happy, hopefully the mare will be happy then I will be happy too!

He is 16.3 true chaser build, and I weigh just over 11 stone atm i think and am 5ft 7ish,he carries me just fine, have ridden lighter framed TB's but would rather not,as although most are probably upto my weight I dont feel right on them!x

My daughter is 5ft7 and weighs around 10ish stone, maybe a bit less, I don't know

She rides her TB mare who is 16.2 and built like a tank, I reckon the mare (if she were fit) could carry 13-14 stone no problem. Mare is now turned away for a while but we'll see what she's like in the spring

Also rides her TB gelding, he's smaller at just under 16hh but quite chunky. He has a shorter back and thicker legs than the mare. I'm not sure he'd carry as much as the mare though as he's quite sensitive through his back

Well my tb used to be 15.3 but she broke her withers and now she's around the 15.1 mark...

I'm about 10 stone with all riding gear on, but sharer weighs more, about 12 stone, and vet says this is fine. Horse seems to cope fine, although the sharer doesn't do much, just short pottery hacks really.

I don't think you should feel like you have to justify this tbh. The vet says it is fine after all :)

16hh and I'm 12 and 3/4 stone, riding in a lightweight saddle ( but 13 stone on a bad day). I personally thought I was too heavy for her, with my girth and her stick thin legs it all looked a bit wrong, truth be told. We looked top heavy:o so I sold her

I have now bought myself a 16hh HW half shire instead, (excuse the no-hat it was only 5 foolish mins, promise):)

my boy is 16.3hh, and im 5ft 1in and weight just under 8 stone. people who are heavy on TB's come under a lot of fire.....but I got loads of nasty comments when I got my boy....people saying I was too small for him, i would never be able to ride him as i dont have the leg length or the strength.....and a year on we are competing just fine! so its not just heavy people that come under fire....us petite ones do too!!!!!!

My old boy is 15.2hh and before I joined WeightWatchers I was 14 and a half stone, I did ride him but didn't over do it although he would have done. I have a 17hh too and it's never been a problem with him either. I am 5ft 11in ish and now 13 and a half stone
