Thoughts for Jess please.

Vets visit went well. They are happy with her progress.

the infection has definitely cleared up so its just a case of in hand walking and box rest to let the damaged tendon sheath make a full recovery.

Next visit is 18th may.

Update as of 24th May.

Vet has been again and removed her foot pad. No sign of infection.

Shes now allowed into small hospital paddock for about 3 hours a day for some grass and vitamin D from this sunny weather. This is going to be for a month and then hopefully she will be allowed into a slightly larger paddock with a pony for company.

As she was so excited about going out she repaid me the only way she knows..with a double barrel into the left knee!!!

Thanks Jess.

Thankyou for the update. Glad to hear she is doing well. I hope she continues to get better. :)
She sounds like a right Cheeky Monkey ;) :p Hope your knee isn't to bad.

Still limping badly..but the bruising is turning yellow now, which im told is a good sign???

Certainly doesnt feel good!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

From tomoorow..31st May im allowed to ride her..only for 20 mins and only in walk..but its a start.

So happy

Been a while but heres the latest.

Its not good news i'm afraid.

Jess decided to kick her stable wall at some point over the last couple of weeks and it has damaged the flexor tendon...probably beyond repair.

So for the next week she will be out in a small paddock on 2 butes a day to see if anything improves. Maybe mother nature and grass will have an effect?

We are stuck in a catch 22. She needs good work to help keep the locking patellas/arthritis at bay..but can't actually do this work while shes got the tendon issues.

Vet reckons she may,at the best make a slow plodder, maybe in 12 months time or so but one mad dash across the field may cause more tendon issues and by then insurance wont cover previous injuries(Which is scandalous in my opinion) and tbh i cant let her go through all this again..shes been so brave.

So we have 7 days or so together to pray for a miracle and after that decisions will have to be made.

Devastated.

Gutted for you.

Really keeping my fingers cross and sending ((((( Hugs ))))).

Poor Jess and poor you. X

Oh no! I hadn't seen your thread originally but have just read it and I'm so sorry to hear about. If tendon problem after all you've both been through.

I will also keep everything crossed for you both and send lots of positive vibes your way. Big hugs. X

How devastated you must be after the journey you and Jess have been through. I'm so sorry and hope that she shows some sign of improvement over the next few days.
I've followed your updates and was hoping for something quite different. I'm gutted for you and Jess.

Im so sorry for u. Just when things were looking up. I know the feeling...it never rains - it pours :(
Thinking of you both & hoping she starts healing up again. xxx

ps, if u have a coldwater hydrotherapy spa nearby, I'd really recommend them.

Just picked up this thread for the first time.

You must be devastated after all your hard work.

My thoughts are with you and your beautiful girl x

I know you will but don't worry, tendon problems are not the end of the world and don't need a lot of veterinary intervention so once your insurance runs out it won't matter.
At best you're looking at six months field rest before she's sound which will also help with her arthritis; at worst it might take a year.

The best medicine of all for tendons is time; I don't think you have anything to lose by giving her that time. TBH, a week and on bute is no time at all for a chance to see.

Now normally, people will know me for being quick to end it - when the horse is suffering - so they might be surprised at my response but I've dealt with too many tendon problems to ever worry too much unless the horse is not a good candidate for a quieter life or the owner doesn't have the facilities or patience to see it through.

Don't give up hope yet.

I'm so sorry to read this. :(

I agree with Maesfen, long term field rest is the key as long as she isn't suffering - let he pootle about. Then once she is sound and ready to bring back into work (even if it's just as a happy hacker), take this very slowly and stick to walk for a fair while before any trotting is introduced.

Please keep in mind that there are a lot of racehorses that break down with tendon injuries that do go on to have many years in their new career (all be it a far more gentle one than racing).
