Thoughts on these ponies

I have videos and more pics of him and he's very cute!!!!! I really like Jim too as the owner has sent me another pic of him and is taking some more tomorrow. He's a total blank canvas from the sound if things!!!

Have you tried looking on the connemara pony society website sales pages some nice ponies advertised there too.

They do seem a bit expensive but anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay my concern would be for showing you need class 1 and why is it class 3 graded and I personally wouldn't buy one over height as all are very close I would want a to measure them very carefully unless of course all you want to do is dressage or jumping then I would want to explore their talent for those too. They are dear for happy hackers though but maybe I am under valuing mine at 8 I have valued her in the current market at £3000 she is absolutely gorgeous to look at, is almost perfect conformation grade one, is a lovely person and is jumping 1 meter tracks with talent to do more I have just sold her and was pleased with the price

Wouldn't really want to show. It's not my cup of tea really. I'm looking for something to be a family horse/pony and do a bit of everything.

Tbh on looking these ponies are some of the lower priced ones I've seen. My old trainer has some for sale and the price range is 3500 - 5000 and the description of them is similar.

I know I could go to Ireland to pick something up way cheaper. However with a busy job and a small child and limited time it seems more hassle than its worth. Plus I'd have to pay for flights there and back for me and my friend who I'd like to take with me, plus get the pony back, plus somewhere to stay... Would I really be saving that much? I'm not being funny I'm asking a genuine question as I really don't know.

Some nice looking ponies there but I also echo the feeling about prices being too high for essentially blank canvas ponies. Look at loads - try plenty - don't rush into anything - there seems to be a lot of the type of thing you are looking for around.

I think the prices, apart from the 3 year old, are fair if they are as described, you may be able to source cheaper in Ireland or over here but it will be at a cost to do so and probably higher risk as well as a rush when you get there to make a decision which if you get it wrong could be an expensive mistake, buying one that is already here still has risks as does any purchase but they should be reduced if you do your homework and you can try more than once.

In my view none of the ads say much other than the basics so hard to really decide which one is best, the photos are not great so again are not giving you anything to rule in or out, I would do as you have by making contact get more info and go and see the ones that you feel are right, often it comes down to gut instinct and finding the seller easy to talk to which makes you feel they are honest and that you can deal with them, you need to ask plenty of questions and get the right answers before you go and view.

There is no rush even though once you start looking you will get impatient and it can be incredibly frustrating when you are searching and just cannot find what you are looking for.

Agree with Be Positive especially 're the pricing. I didn't like the dun, sorry, he looked a bit long in the back to me but I appreciate he is young. When I was looking at connies a year ago the prices were astronomical, there was a recently backed 5yo for 6k and he was one of the more reasonably priced ones! I think there was a 1k premium for a green passport!

Liked Nemo, he's cute and I'd say his price is fine.

You've hit the nail on the head a couple of times there. Not confident enough to buy from Ireland direct and it would be hassle that's not worth it too (with oh and small person) and would probably end up spending more lol!!

I've asked questions about some ponies and Jim seems sweet temperament wise. His owner was gushing about him which is good!!! Have got more pics and videos too but don't know how to post from my phone and not sure I should on a public forum.

It's a strange process to go through isn't it. Exciting and frustrating at the same time!!!

I'm off the dun now. Totally overpriced too. I've got pics and videos of Nemo and I like him.

Going to see my old trainers ponies Friday so I'll see what they're like, but they are a bit more pricey and have done a bit more. I like the blank canvas idea!!!

I know you're not keen on coming to Ireland but i did a quick search and came across this girl by the super Stallion Westside Mirah. My friend bred her mare with him and the filly she has is amazing. Beautiful temperament and very scopey. http://www.donedeal.ie/ponies-for-sale/superb-westside-mirah-mare/7588411

If you are interested, I could pm you the details of an agent I know who helps to find horses in Ireland and send them abroad. He sends many to the US. He is genuine too.

Out of the few you have posted, I think Nemo would be the one for me though. Best of luck with the search!

I'd buy a horse from anywhere if I liked it!

I didn't think they were badly priced either for the money, just lower range Connies that you are never going to get to HOYS on but would probably have a lot of fun with. Other than the last one, there weren't very good photos.

Nemo looks the best of the bunch

Also don't rule out New Forest ponies, they are every bit as versatile and talented as Connies and often much cheaper

I like the 2nd and 4th ones! They seem like sweet, relatively blank canvases
Also the connie Millie posted an add to looked fab and great price, and good when someone else can comment on how genuine they are!

Flights to Ireland are currently about £38 with Ryanair (single), B&B is not going to be expensive, it will cost £300 to ship back & I have just had a vetting & started vacs for £115 so yes, you would definitely save money.........

Still think you may regret not having a true 14.2 so would make sure it wasn't over height Nemo looks the best of those I would be a little concerned as to why the grade 3, was failed for grade one think good conformation and quality. May just be not interested in the grading system for a gelding. If you plan for the little one to ride this pony eventually then the height is definitely an issue as most children's classes are max 148 cm.
I do like the look of the Irish mare but again she is over height

glad others agree with me about nemo and you like the look of him after seeing vids etc.....I looked on h & h last night as my friend is looking for a family horse about 14.2 that needs to be suitable for a child as well.... and there are a couple on there that look like the type you are looking for...may be worth a look if you can cope with the way the site works, drives me mad keeps flicking back to main list even though I had put the heights and price on the search facility. other sites are so much better, don't know why h& h cant get their act together...im sure they are losing sales...

I think all very overpriced tbh. I am going to head over to Ireland soon and get a connie. I have seen connie foals are going for £1. However with a small child it would be far too much hassle and worth paying more over here. See my pose Gorsebridge sales x

Personally, I'd never buy a horse from Preloved, but maybe that's just me!

I didn't think I would, not being snobby (well perhaps a bit!) But I thought it'd all be backyard breeders and riders in joggers on ponies too young to be ridden... I got my girl from a preloved ad, and she wasn't advertised anywhere else. Thank heavens, as she would have been snapped up instantly on h&h or horsequest etc. So I would certainly not rule it out in future.

Thanks for this hihosilver!!! After reading that thread it definitely isn't something I'd have the confidence to do. It is something I'd maybe fancy in the future to get another one day, maybe!!

I am looking at other breeds too. Namely new forest and highland. Just seem drawn to the connies.

Thanks all for your input. I really appreciate it.
