Morning all, foals (well yearlings now!) seem to have reduced frogs not so much the traditional black stinky thrush but I'm thinking it's the same.

They live out in a very muddy field but it does have drier parts. I've been bringing them in during the day most days to dry out but noticed they have less frog than they had. Going to have a chat with farrier today but I've been scrubbing their feet with Milton when they come in.

Should I be putting something on feet? Have sheep purple spray, hydrogen peroxide and Hypocare any of these or other suggestions?
Should I leave them permanently stabled for a couple of days/week or carry on with part time out coming in during the day?

Have used all of the above you have mentioned with good results, I often wash the feet with a drop of hibiscrub and some tea tree oil this works well as the constant bleach can be a bit harsh for some especially the peroxide.

It wouldnt hurt them to keep in for a few days just to let the soles dry out so you can have a proper clean out in them. Then when done apply something like Kevin Bacon Hoof Solution, Anti Bac or Hypocare to the but make sure they are kept picked out. Just remember thrush is anaerobic so exposure to the oxygen should kill the bacteria.

Have a look at the Red Horse products, they're really good, sorted my boys persistant thrush out in about a week and had tried everything before that :)

Thanks all advice much appreciated. I left them in as hurricane brewing here! Will alternate Milton and tea tree oil and see how we get on.

Same here. My boy has had everything you could name on his feet and nothing has sorted it at all until I tried their Field paste. It has also prevented any signs of thrush this winter for the first time ever. I can't recommend it highly enough.
