My horse has got dreadful thrush in her back feet. She has got very deep feet and the thrush is right in the clefts and down the side of her frogs. She has had a good trim and clean out and I have been recommended to put copper sulfate powder mixed with vaseline and put it on her feet.
The problem I have got is that her feet are so sore I can just about brush her feet out with with a very soft brush or my hands. She kicks out and moves away making it very difficult. She wont let me touch her feet in order to really get the copper sulfate vaseline paste on there.
I was wondering if copper sulfate powder can be mixed with water so I can spray it on to avoid actually having to press on the sore area?? Or if there is a good strong anti-fungal spray already made up that I can use to spray on??

Red Horse products are excellent. I currently use their field paste as well as a bit of salt for the thrush in my horse's feet and it is getting better. I put the salt in the central sulcus and then block in with field paste. It works a treat and stays in for days.

They also do a spray that may help until you can touch your mare's feet, it is called Sole Cleanse:

I hope you manage to get on top of the thrush. :)

Copper sulphate is just as soluble in water at room temperature as salt (sodium chloride), so you should be able to make up a fairly concentrated solution of 20g per 100cc or so. It will be a strong blue colour. Then use a spray bottle to get it into the affected areas. The only disadvantage of using it neat like this is that it will wash off again if your horse gets her feet wet - but then you will be wanting to keep the feet as dry as possible anyway because thrush loves damp.

Good luck.

I battled thrush for 3 years in my boy, as soon as I though I'd got rid it returned almost immediately after trying so many products!

Have FINALLY got completely on top of it by using a small syringe to apply pure 100% eucalyptus oil daily for about 3 weeks and now just do it a couple of times a week as a preventative.

Cheap and definitely effective!! :) you can get a 100ml bottle from eBay for about a fiver.

Another vote for Red Horse- the Artimud or the Field Paste are really good to pack and leave. The Sole Cleanse is a gentle spray- maybe you can soak her feet for a few minutes to soften the dirt/mud, then brush and spray with clean water, then sole cleanse. Put her in a stall or just tie with some hay and let the feet dry, then pack with the paste or artimud. :)

side note- one of the main actives in their products is eucalyptus oil. while I've never tried MasterBenedict's method, I can't imagine it wouldn't work too.
