Thunderbrook nuts alert

I posted about this a couple of days ago after it appeared on the PSSM forum. Apparently there's a batch that horses have been refusing to eat but one owner has had her horse come down with elevated liver enzymes and laminitis and is blaming the feed (from that batch). Horse hasn't been on grass and nothing else changed in her routine. Young so cushings unlikely although I imagine the vets are checking.

FB posts have now been removed from the PSSM forum after admin contacted by TB apparently

It wouldn't be the first time that Thunderbrooks haven't declared all of the ingredients. They're probably threatening people on Facebook with legal action if they don't remove the posts...
This combined with Eddie Linehan the sex pest being a director- why do people continue to support such a terrible business ?

I thought the BF people hero worshipped their crappy feeds?

There's a few bf groups on Facebook. Ones a tb fanclub where you get in trouble if you say anything bad. Tb used to be very active but don't seem to post directly anymore.

The other was neutral, didn't exactly criticise but the occasional person might say it didn't work for their horses. Eddie Linehan went after them and the admins, threatened to send police around. So now they just ask people not to mention them at all positively or negatively for a quiet life.

And that says it all about the company !

Can you imagine Spillers or Dengie hounding and threatening people on social media? That's just bonkers !

It wouldn't worry me, where I live the police won't turn up if your car is stolen or your house burgled, let alone if somebody claims you wrote a bad thing on fb

Haven’t heard anything about being ill or bringing on lamintis- only heard that some are being fussy with this particular batch.

I've never fed TB products but for all the bad stories about both the products and the people behind them that I've read online, I would never use them anyway.

Why do people still buy from them and how are they still in business?
It is so frustrating to see people still supporting this terrible business.
It's not like there aren't better feeds available , not sold by aggressive , unpleasant people or sex pests

There’s not much on FB about this. I wonder if they are busy getting everything deleted. The fact they can influence so many groups is probably why it’s a popular feed. I wouldn’t feed anything that’s not clear what’s in it. This is like the Emperors New Clothes.

Yes from what I can gather there were numerous postings in horsey FB groups about this, but it sounds like most were deleted by admins after threats about legal action from TB.

This is the post going around Facebook about sick horses and the Thunderbrook nuts:

Apparently "the horse was unsteady on its feet and looked unwell. Bloods showed poisoning "
There was a lot more on the PSSM forum until it got pulled. One of the ladies who saw the original post said she'd got a bag from the dodgy batch and was battling high liver enzymes. She posted somewhere else that TB said they'd send her a new bag and the PSSM forum admin was told they'd get a new bag. So anything negative is being shut down at speed. Apparently they told the admin that trading standards was happy with the approach they were taking ?

The original poster is a friend of a friend and I've heard she's got the bit between her teeth now she's found others have had problems with that batch, so I hope TB are getting answers.

It's only the organic nuts so I think they should check what fertilizer was used. Cut too close to the ground after using slurry for instance - hot, dry summer would it be washed in properly?

Has she tested it though? There's so many reasons for high liver enzymes, and many of them you never actually find and they spontaneously resolve. To me it's a bit of a reach to blame TB without any actual feed tests (and Im not a TB fan)
I think it’s a fair assumption if it’s happened to numerous horses fed on it and others have flatly refused the batch.

Science geek says no ?.

What are talking as numerous?

I'd absolutely expect their way of dealing with it to be terrible though, which is daft if they made it sound like they were even vaguely concerned about it they'd be better off.
They could have put a post up stating “although nothing has been proven, we are investigating fully. The quality of our feed is very important to us so if you have bought from batch number x, please return for a refund”. Food companies do it all the time without it negatively affecting their business. They don’t have to be aggressive about it.

I had a bag of thunderbrook meadow nuts recently that were odd, it looked as though it had two different types of nuts in it! They were completely different colours.

Their quality control seems to be lacking....
