What are we all up to?
I'm having another weirdly quiet weekend, I hate it! But I didn't want to abuse Kira's good nature (lol!) so she's had a week and a half of not going anywhere after her busy few weeks.

Weekend started early though as just come back from a yard visit to Carl's place, got myself booked on at short notice and it was very enjoyable. I've been before but Charlotte was out of the country so it was nice to see them working together today, as well as meet some other famous faces again

Back to normal tomorrow, and then Kira has arena hire at a new 25x60m school 5 mins down the road, hoping to be able to practice her tempis again on some longer lines and also revisit the piris - made a bit of progress on that earlier in the week and I think the penny is dropping that she needs to actually turn the front end :o so that will be fun.
Millie can go in the school tomorrow and then back to hacking.

Excited to be going back to Adam's for a lesson on Tuesday, it will have been 4 week since the last one so lots to crack on with :)

Have fun everyone!

Ooh lucky you going to Carl's yard! I met his team mate Spencer Wilton on Tuesday when my YO went for a lesson, it was great to get a bit of free education by watching and quizzing him between exercises. I imagine you learn even more from a day with Carl and Charlotte!

It's a VERY exciting weekend for me and I can't wait for Saturday, as it's Indio's re-debut after 8 months away from competing! He's not as strong as he was before his operation in March, but he does feel straighter and very happy in his work. We're just doing two short arena Novice tests at a quiet venue.

Pocholo is coming along too as we're then going to meet our hoof care guru at a friend's yard, I may squeeze in a lesson on him with friend's YO too but let's see. Sunday will be a quiet hacking day :D

Saturday sees me going over to newish friend in the box, to hack out.
Sunday am allegedly arena eventing, last one of the yr for me. No more comps till new year, just a lot of hacking about :)
NF has got a little porkier in the last week, gawd knows what she'll be like by end next week as am going away on Monday till Friday!

Mp, v envious of your visit, I had to forgo mine last yr and haven't been able to re sort it yet!

Am off to Wellington for the My Quest Regional final on Sunday, so excited! We somehow managed to qualify for both prelim and novice, despite being late to the party and doing the last 6 local competitions available all in a row, to get our points.
Unfortunately the last couple of weeks have not gone to plan, with horsebox currently in bits, the horse fell in the field last week and was sore for a few days, work being hectic, and my poor little cat being in and out of the vets - despite a brave fight she lost the battle and was pts on Monday.
So I am not at all prepared, but have decided to just go and have fun. What will be, will be.

Ooo, very jealous of the yard visit.
And sorry to hear about your wee cat mavandkaz - good luck on Sunday

I'm off to our second ever affiliated dressage on Saturday - really looking forward to it. We're just at the start of our adventure so I always find it inspiring to read about everyone's plans.

Good luck to those getting out to compete :-)

Yard visit sounds fab MP. Dressage divas, hope you all have fun. Sorry about your horrid week mandk. Have fun FF!

Off to pacesham on Sunday for 70 hunter trial. Felt like a fraud doing the 50 ode there last time and oddly didn't totally love the day. Instructo reckons it might have been too small, so I've gone up a class. Hoping for the right balance between challenging enough but not totally freaking me out (given my recent confidence blip).

Saturday will be spent cleaning and preeening the grey poo pony, and trying to emulate the apparently bogey first fence which is fat white telegraph poles. And ideas? We have thin white jump poles, so they might have to do!

It's not so much weekend but mid-week for us at the moment. I dragged Raz to BD on Wednesday there (won our section and was first overall, and picked up the last of our qualifying points for areas/regionals) and then Blue is jumping next Wednesday.

Not much planned for the actual weekend - Beau's off with cellulitis but T can be bitted again after having a tooth removed and I might pop the baby over a fence at some point to make sure the first time under saddle wasn't a fluke. ;)
Also have people coming for arena hires.

Off to a belated first endurance ride with the new one which is also the last of the season. She will then switch to jumping, and we will try and improve her flatwork over the winter, although 6 months of hacking has improved her rideability no end! Sounds like a busy week for lots again!

*Whispers* We're off to our first competition of the year on Sunday, but don't tell him because he may just come up with some other excuse not to go!

Had a really good lesson this morning which resulted in a couple of light bulb-ish moments about some important things - better late than never I suppose :)

A nice quiet hack tomorrow as my legs are already aching from my new 'increased riding' regime - didn't think I was so unfit!!!

Urghhh just back from arena hire- on the plus side it's a lovely huge school with no jumps bunging up every diagonal/centre line etc, and just 10 mins down the road so that is really useful. Kira wasn't totally up for doing her bestest work though :D :rolleyes3: so it didn't feel like a very enjoyable trip... did tease some good work out of her eventually but it used up all her petrol so not much left for fun things.

I think we are waving goodbye to the hormones for the last time this year and she's always extra tricky early spring and late autumn. Hopefully won't need to go down the regumate route again, she's a thousand times better than the same time last year so we'll see. Rest for her tomorrow and riding friend's pony at the yard.

I love those types of lessons levrier, and well done on upping the riding. Shame about the arena hire and hormone MP, gotta take the rough with the smooth I suppose!

I'm feeling like a decrepit old woman today. Had to give the hunter trial a miss as I wrenched my back last night putting in his flipping travel studs. What a wally. Everything was sorted, I wasn't feeling nervous for the first time ever (not sure why) and we had a nice little practice sj yesterday. Bit better today but decided I'd better rest it just in case.

So off for breakfast with horsey pals, tack shop visit and maybe a light hack if I'm feeling ok. Then Sunday dinner. I reckon that's not a bad way to spend the day instead

I'm frustrated with the Diva, she's now getting her muzzle off every single night, despite the fact that I'm now tying it to a normal headcollar (field safe headcollar was off straight away). I can't work her to keep her weight down and she has EMS. Shes just piling the weight on and I'm feeling totally at a loss.

I had to pop mine in a pretty bald paddock with lots of soaked hay to shift the blubber - & that was working her daily too.

Long hack up to Cefn Bryn for us today, first time the horses have done much since amble around the block for a few weeks and they both struggled because it was boiling hot and they're incredibly fluffy. Both had baths afterwards and will be clipped Wednesday :).

I need to have a bitting/noseband re-think for Molly - she's manageable in the lozenge universal with 2 reins and a leather curb but not happy when standing or walking (lots of lip flapping) and today she crossed her jaw in canter and bogged off with me for a few strides. I might try a grackle but I'm not 100% sure that's the right course of action - any advice would be appreciated!

I had a wonderful first outing with mine, even after being very late and having to ride passed lots of other horses which as she didn't hack alone until recently was a huge achievement. I then didn't see a soul until nearly back at the venue, but she was pretty good, and passed the vet so chuffed to bits with her.

Have you tried plaiting the mane around the muzzle and tying it on that way? I've not done it myself but it was a popular tactic at a previous yard!

Indio was a superstar at our competition, he was an absolute pro despite not being out for 8 months and the venue being new to him. If only the same could have been said for the organisation - the judge was 45 minutes late and then changed the running order! We were all standing around on our horses like pony clubbers waiting to be told when to go in, including a pro rider on his lovely young (and thankfully very well behaved) stallion. Indio was lovely in his tests, although a few irregular strides brought the marks down. I'm pretty sure they were due to a lack of balance as I've forgotten how to ride a test on him, he's so different to Pocholo and easily loses the rhythm of he's not through. I'll get my physio to take a look and see what she thinks just in case. 64.5% in our first test and 66.2% in the second :)

Had a great lesson on Pocholo, working on his connection and engagement. Instructor suggested riding him in a drop so I tried that on Sunday...cue huge tantrums. I think I'll try it with a nathe or Mullen mouth, but maybe after the Area semi-finals and GBPRE champs so we don't go backwards (literally as well as metaphorically!).

What make of muzzle is it? I have used loads and with mine have found most stickabikity with a Dinky. They do wear out but I think as no " bucket" they are harder for a pony to lever off (and I think they are less irritating for the pony so less determination to remove it!). For a really stubborn Welshie I also have plaited a muzzle in.

It's an easy-breathe, unfortunately due to her narrowed windpipe, if she wears a muzzle that doesn't have open nostril holes, she starts to panic. The easy-breathe is the only one that I've managed to get her to accept.
