Tia is now on a diet so

I thought I would post some pics of how she looks at the moment

This is the third week of her diet and so far she has lost 15kg.

I just can't seem to shift that neck!

What does anyone think of her weight? I know she is fatter than most people would like - she seemed to pile it on when they were stuck in for a month over Christmas.

Millie actually looked like she was about to drop a foal so is now on a very strict diet, summer routine of grazing mask in field and starvation patch over night

To be honest I think you have a long way to go! But well done you for realising she is overweight and doing something about it.
As an owner of a laminitic...my advise would be to keep going until you can easily feel her ribs and the fat pads accross her bum and behind her shoulders have gone.
My lad lost loads of weight when on box rest for laminitis last year and got down to his ideal weight...he lost his crest (although less of one than your horse has), lost his fat pads, has a round bum instead of one with a gutter down it and you can faintly see ribs even with a winter coat. To me he looks underweight but the vet says that is how he should be, even though he is a well built Welsh D cob.
Better to be safe than sorry...my lad was diagnosed with laminitis last August and we are still not out of strife yet and I am not sure when he will be ridden yet...you really do not want to go through that and neither does your horse...so keep going for steady weight loss week on week. Good luck.
 
It's a shame there isn't a way by now of transferring weight across - several people have said they wish they could have some of that neck on their horse! I wish I could get rid of it!

Iv not been able to ride my good doer since way before xmas due to the weather (fields are a bog & no arena at the mo!) shes only 3 & i dont have a hacking partner to come out with me

& to add to it shes now in a foul mood because iv been soaking her hay, double netting it & limiting the amount!
 
She's a lovely mare. I'd think about getting her off the straw bed, cos chances are she's eating that - or may start to once the diet really kicks in.
 
oh my gosh.. she is pretty obese. How often is she ridden? Do you have a trailer or horsebox so you can take her to some gallops (once she's had a few weeks trotting of course). She is lovely though, i'm sure you'll get it off her. Shavings bed, soaked hay, plenty of exercise
