Has anyone got any tips on tidying feathers up without my horse's legs looking like I have just hacked his feathers off? Using clippers is not an option, as he has to be sedated for clipping. Also, the scissors I have tried don't seem to be strong enough or sharp enough to cut through his feathers, so can anyone recommend any that are up to the job. Thanks.

Try using a razor comb to tidy up with, the sort you by from the chemist, works well to neaten the appearance and get a little shaping around the fetlocks. Suspect you may be able to do something with one of the Smart Tails or Smart Manes gadget.

Get a proper pair of fetlock shears (i paid about £5 for mine) and a comb. Comb through the hair and follow the curve of the fetlock with the shears (easily done as the blades are curved). I do this with D, have never had a problem and they always come up tidy. hope that helps?

This is what I do if I can't use trimmers on a horse. I comb through the hair, keep the comb against the leg and snip off the hair on the other side of the comb if that makes sense. A good quality pair of scissors should do the job - and make sure the hair is free from dirt/grit to keep them sharp

Ditto with milliepops re: snipping off hair on the other side of the comb - I use a decent pair of kitchen scissors which seem to stay sharper than others (I hasten to add that they then stay in the yard rather than going back to kitchen...!)
