Tips on going forward on a lazy Connemara, with an absence of leg contact - I am very short :-(

I’m in the your length of leg doesn’t matter! I ride an 18hh barrel. I’m 5’3 and whilst not the shortest I have short legs. I’m all bum and torso!!

As all above, get all physical checks done, and then I’d mount up with all the positive energy in the world, get yourself thinking forwards too. I’ve always had an electric arse and I really object to having to nag every stride it’s exhausting. I’m a big believer in a schooling whip, a little tickle every time they drop behind the leg, and without seeing you ride but lengthen the reins a few inches. So many riders are too busy focusing on the horses head they forget it doesn’t “count” if the horse isn’t pushing forwards into the contact rather then the riding pulling into it :) just my two pence!!
