To breed or not to breed

I gave up.......... realising the person was to immature to have a discussion without spitting the dummy, I usually hate the "someone left the common room door open" posts..but I think that's what happened here.....which is a shame as there are so many younger mature users that frequent here and soap box that I enjoy chatting to and reading their posts....of course I can understand them....which always helps.

ah i understand about you getting mixed up about her being rude first

Just to clairfy, I never suggested I agreed with you that Cala was rude first. I simply hadn't read any posts apart from the one of Cala's you replied to which I responded to as I believed it was appallingly rude.

I haven't seen Cala be rude to you, just request you type in a way that makes for easier reading.

sorry but i put my point of view down and she was being rude about it and i thought it was nasty so i thought i would be nasty back but i shouldnt of done that im sorry

Hi Pingpong. I agree that "pet breeders" often don't have quality animals to breed from. My moan was at being termed a pet breeder by some of the large breeding kennels because we only had a couple of breeding bitches. These bitches were show winning and our affix was held by my mother (a championship show judge) and myself (open show judge).

Then IMO YOU are the RIGHT sort of breeder!

One that has time to spend with their dogs and live as part of the family. If they call you a pet breeder again, thank them very much and say you re proud of it!

How very mature and grown up of you *insert rolling eyed smiley here*. May I suggest you might have been better to just agree to disagree instead of starting to make yourself unpopular? First impressions and all that, bearing in mind you said yourself you're a new member.

To be honest as I've said before, this subject will always cause conflict. I think so long as the OP takes all sides of the story into consideration when making their decision, then we've all made a difference.

BTW: MM my addition to my last post wasn't aimed at you it was a statement for everyone - sorry it came across wrong

I must admit I was going to breed from my GSD her hip scores are good and the the stud dogs are good, but a few months ago I read a topic about about breeding on here and it has changed my mind.I realised that I would be breeding for selfish reasons I was purely going to breed as I wanted one litter from her and my friends fabulous GSD as the sire. I will not be breeding from her and she has just had her last season and will be booked in to be done - I think is 3 months please correct me if I wrong.

Dont do it!!! We have just bred from our lab bitch because my partner wanted a litter from her because he said it would mature her before she was spayed and lots of people had commented on how nice looking she was.

Well it is expensive if you do it right, plus things dont always go to plan, ours didnt like motherhood after 24hrs, so left it to us, one of the eight nearly died at birth and we have spent a fortune on him, he is fine now, the costs are horrendous, scans, hip scores, vets, worming, vaccinations, KC registration, food, flea and tick treatments, advertising, the list goes on. Then it is hard work physically feeding 4-5 times perday, mixing foods, washing dishes etc... Picking up poo continuously, then it is heart wrenching when they go and all the work you put into finding them good homes. I would never do it again, I am keeping 2 because I cant bear to be parted from them and I didnt want 3 dogs.

Its mad breeding when there are hundreds of dogs looking for homes, I wished I had put my foot down more when my partner started on about this breeding nonsence!!!
