I'm toying with the idea to hog Toby!! Eek!
He has a good neck (I think) so think he could pull it off. The white part of his mane is typical cob, thick, frizzy and uncontrollable. The Appaloosa bit is lovely, thin, easy to manage etc. As the majority is "cob" mane, I cannot keep up with the tidying, and he is starting to hate me pulling it. I trim his legs and his tail, so could he be a "show cob" type? He is 14.2/3hh at present.

What are your plans for him? And can you put up a picture? Can't really tell from your sig what he's like.
Remember though, if you do hog, it takes forever to grow back, and looks terrible whilst growing out, so be sure its what you want before you do it.
Can you use a solo comb on his mane? If you rake it a bit first to thin it out, then use a solo comb, I find you can get quite a nice finish without pulling.

Here is a pic:

Hope its good enough.

I plain mainly to do dressage with a bit of showing. I'm not a fan of solo combs, but I have tried a blade comb, and I don't like the finish, its still too thick. I'm going to try and pull it again, before I make a decision!

defiantly hog (with puled and banged tail) lovely light cob in the making <3

i hogged my mare who is a LOT lighter framed than him.... but she pulls it off well

i did it because she has really bad mane issues - wont let me brush/plat etc without a fight - plus it was awful so we whipped it off.

id say hog :)

I just don't think there is enough of him!

A friend had a similar stamp hogged (sweet itchy sort of reasons) and she looked ok but think she would have looked better pulled and plaited ;). I think he would look ok hogged but better not if that makes sense.

I'm normally for hogging but not for him being hogged I'm afraid. From that photo I don't think he has enough bone or topline to carry it off.

I wouldn't either, I'd just have it nice and short and plait it. If he doesn't like you pulling it then just trim with scissors, if you cut upwards it doesn't look like it's been cut :)

I wouldn't hog him either. You need a proper cob neck for hogging to look good. His neck is long and slender.

I wouldn't hog it, I don't think it would suit him, sorry! I don't think his neck is chunky enough and short enough for it to look right. Just my personal opinion though, I'm no judge or anything. Lovely horse, though! :)

I would hogg him, he kind of looks like he is already in the picture and he looks good. He does have a slender neck but if he had a great stocky one it would look out of proportion to the rest of him.
Oh and re pulling his tail - please tell me you're leaving the middle long and just thinning the edges? There should be circle of hell reserved for people who pull/clip the middle of their pony's tails :)

Hog, I think with his neck he will pull it off and if you hate it, it will grow back. Just don't do it if you're looking into affiliating for showing, wait and see what happens.

Ha Ha!!! That made me chuckle, don't worry, only the sides are done, I don't touch the middle....... I hate the "bog brush" look too!!!

Regarding his neck, he is only rising 5, and is on minimal work at the moment (taking it slowly), so I think he will build up a bit more, once his work load increases
