To rug or not to rug?

It’s going to chuck it down tonight and my chap will absolutely throw a fit in the morning if I don’t rug him- but I’m worried about him sweating (approx 13c, feel by 11c). Can I stick a string vest with an elastic surcingle on underneath to counteract this? Surely it will wick away moister?
or do I let him get soaked to the skin and deal with a very upset pony in the morning which I absolutely dread. My lovely old chap becomes a tail swishing devil with pinned ears and a mean face with “you left me unrugged you cow!” Written all over it. He rugged okay a few nights ago (10c). And he’ll be rugged at 8/9PM unrugged by 7:30 the next morning.

So hope we do get some proper rain tonight. I will be going for a no fill. As TP said, it's fairly windy here so I don't think they'll get too hot. I reckon you'll be fine if you're rugging that late and taking it off early.

rugs going on the horses at the yard, one is a tit when he gets cold and wet. and as i'm rugging one, may as well rug the other. they have a shelter but neither use it and their field is exposed with barely any grass.

the gang who live out will rough it as normal! they have grass and hedges/ trees and a shelter :)

I splashed out on one of those combination fly rugs with the waterproof strip down the back, mine gets very warm so this suits her as she is also a gremlin and does not like being wet - Thoroughbred mare obvs

Yesterday we were due short showers in the morning and then sun out. It rained a lot all day and my PSSM mare took a chunk out of me when I brought them in for tea last night. She will be rugged this evening even if it's still 20 degrees - it's windy and she's still not forgiven me!

If they are one of those horses that really likes a rug then they have to put up with being a bit warm for a couple of hours. The rest of my lot will be fine without.

My 3 horses are fat (fatter than I'd like, anyway) and sleek and will be unrugged, apart from flysheet boy - they have hedges to shelter behind. I'm very much for them turning their bums to it and toughing it out. If they were skinny/poor things would be different.

Mines in peak condition at the moment, but he’s such a wimp. A bit of wind and he looks at me pleadingly. The youngster on the other hand will be left out to fend for himself. He’s the opposite- gale force winds, named storm raging, and he still wants to go out and play.

Mine will be naked, but they have shelter and stables open. I have a mare that will be in a foul mood by morning, but Im not sure enough that the promised rain will even materialise.

I’m still trying to work through the mindset of my first yard- they laughed when I rugged my horse in September! They’d throw a fit if they saw me so much as looking at a rug this time of year ?

My Arab with literally no coat is rugged when it rains if its below 13 degrees he hates getting soaked, in fact he has had a rug on the last few nights as its been 9 degrees and windy, the other 2 are left naked they don't mind the rain and have more coat.

Wind & rain here for a few days and more to come. One was rugged and OK, the other wasn't and told me he was not happy so as soon as the wind dried him off I put a no fill on and he's been happily munching the grass all day without any tantrums.

I brought my 2 in to dry off a bit at 6pm, will put out now and oldie will have the no fill on. Smaller native has enough "topping" to be able to keep warm.
