Thank you for your kind and sensible (and uninvited) advice to 'get right up behind the horse' when long reining and asking to move on. However, just to let you know that we did make it home yet again in one piece with me several feet behind the horse. Even though apparently "horses can't kick you when you're close" is a treasure of information, i prefer to be out of hooves way when long reining a youngster.
Also, if we didn't have to wait several minutes for you to control your yapping dog and let us past, said horse would not have decided the grass was too tempting to move away from.
Amazing what experts you meet out and about isn't it.
Same horse was then sat on for the first time once back at the yard. We are all still alive and well
