Just because you know her, doesn't mean she isn't a fool.

I assume, that as you have contacted their parents, then this is a 'child' (or someone under 18?)

If so, I cannot imagine a child's ramblings would actually cause any damage to your reputation.

Still, it's not a nice thing for them to do.

[ QUOTE ]
If he/she sent it as a PM, it might technically be libel, but you have suffered no personal loss as noone else has seen it. You could end up spending a fortune on legal fees suing her, and win something like £1 in damages as you have suffered no actual loss. Did your solicitor mention that? Just remember that it is in the interest of members of the legal profession for you to pursue actions as that is how they make their income!

[/ QUOTE ]

as i buy and sell ponies, the acussations of the forum member, would be totally UNFOUNDED as i have receipts for/from her parents re: certain purchase/sales.. she should just let things go.......................

Personally, I'm surprised someone such as yourself who comes across as very sure of their own mind and integrity, is so concerned about a nasty/defamatory PM sent to you by someone you know is a minor. I would have expected a reaction as in feeling pi**ed off for a few minutes then totally dis-regarding it, because surely a message sent to you cannot have serious consequences for your reputation? If this child is spreading negative information about you widely around the internet, I'd be more worried about that if I were you. I'm not sure what you can do about it if that is the case, though the solicitor must, and hopefully people who have used your buisness and been satisfied with the service will come quickly to your defense and show the child up as a liar.

she ISN'T a minor.....hence the post....

Not at all nice for you or your business F, I do sympathise.

However, I think, no I believe, that they may have picked a fight with the wrong person and could live to regret their actions, which do sound very immature, even for 18.

okay...

Personally I wouldnt drag an adult's parents into something like this. The culprit is, as you say, responsible for their own actions, what have the parents done to deserve being dragged into it?

Simply get your solicitor to write the culprit a nice letter asking them to refrian from bad mouthing your buisness. That's usually enough to stop people like this.

nope, charlie, parents aren't "dragged" into this...TBH i truely believe that until i phoned said forum member's parents, who is an adult by law, they had no idea..but felt, due to a certain forum members state of mind, THEY would deal with this..

i hope so......

[ QUOTE ]
Yes, why moan to the parents ,if they are adults and if selling horses is your living I am not sure you should be advertising in your siggie!

Good luck - I hope you can sort it out and put an end to it. At best it must be extremely irritating and at worse upsetting and unpleasant. Incidentally if the forum member continues in her behaviour it may amount to criminal offences: harassment, malicious communication and Public Order offences. P.s am not a copper btw!!

ok probably jumping to wrong conclusion but..if x is broadcasting that JM cannot do her job then JM's livelyhood is at state and JM has every right to defend her name and business. Whether X is doing it by PM or any other means. How many of us ask for advice? What if X said this that and the other when she saw one of us posting for advice?
(I am assuming that by the fact that you buy and sell and you mentioned something in previous posts)

Ooh sorry to hear all this JM its not exactly what anybody needs.

Still I have every confidence in your ability to nip it in the bud.

So who is it????...............I'm nosey too!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly.... we have to know who it is so we know to ignore their ramblings

Well, Aunty JM07, anyone can say what they like about you as far as I'm concerned................

I'd buy any of your ponies

I have to admit I'm a bit surprised they managed to rattle you to this extent

Surprised you said anything on forum at all! But obviously you know the person and have your reasons.

same here. Some people are best ignored. Someone's reputation is earnt and JM has plenty of satisfied customers. Those worth selling to would come and meet her before making up their mind about her / her ponies, not listen to a bit of forum gossip. JM must know that the horse world is full of people like this, so I cannot understand why she's allowed someone to get her so riled.

some might even say it's a bit unprofessional to splatter stuff like this across the forum, because now people are going to wonder WHAT has been said, and WHY it's been said.

Oops, the girl chose the wrong person to try to take on. Hope this serves as a warning to her and a reminder that this place, whether some believe it or not, is real and as such is filled with real people. Good luck in sorting this out JM.

Why not? Someone appears to have acted like a brat. I would actually be surprised if they expected NOT to be 'outed' on the forum.
Incidentally, I'm 39 and the thought of someone calling my mum about something naughty I might've done still fills me with terror!

PPPsssssss..........
Can I share a whisper????

Somewhere down the line....this kinda thing as happened on another forum or three...... a number of comments were posted....as they are here......

THE FORUMS HAVE NOW BEEN SHUT DOWN.......due to one post that became a legal action!!! The courts viewed the actions of the poster and the replies in a dim view...the forum owners were given no choice.........

Meaning of this reply????...............
Be careful what you bring into the public realm of the forum...
I for one would prefer HHO not to be dragged into it!!
Kinda like visiting....

"Appears" being the optimum word. JM has not actually outed anyone, or even been clear on what has happened, so it just creates speculation. I don't really see any need for this to have been brought onto the open forum, it seems very much to be a private matter and the message in the OP could have been easily conveyed by PM.

Whoever this girl is, hopefully she will have learnt her lesson anyway.
