Hey everyone, was just wanting to ask a housetraining question. Toby has been fine in the flat when I am there and I was putting him in the crate when I was out. I have started to let him loose on his own for shortish periods of time - 2 hours or so. I always walk him 5 times a day, before work, at 10am, then at lunch (12.30) and after work and before I go to bed. This mostly as I have no garden to let him loose in, and I don't want him running about when the horses are around just yet.
Now he averages 3 poos at day (Sorry TMI), usually one first thing, one at lunch or after work and one before bed, sometimes 4. Yesterday took him for a walk at lunch time, poo and weed so let him loose in the flat with a kong stuffed with pate (doggy stuff) and everything was fine. No repeat of the theiving earlier in the week that was partially my fault and led to him vomitting 5 or 6 times in an hour.
So today thought, I'd do the same, took him for his lunch time walk, weed but no poo, this is not that unusual so stuffed his Kong and went to work. Came back to a poo on the carpet, not an upset tummy type poo, just a normal poo. Now when he was being sick the other night he did make the effort to go onto the lino to vomit on there and not on the carpet. Needless to say I was livid, not really too sure how I was meant to deal with it but I did show him said poo and said Bad Boy, did not shove his face in it but made it quite clear that I was not happy. He went and sulked in his crate.
So at 18 months old, can I just not trust him unless he has produced both, when I am at home he never asks to go out and if he has gone for a poo on his lunchtime walk he will then go until 10pm before needing another one, so he can hold it if necessary and I did give him adequate time to have one at lunch time. I wanted to ditch the crate, I don't have a lockable kitchen, its a kitchen living room sort of set up and there is carpet everywhere in the flat so no where I can leave him where he can't make a mess.
Am so disappointed with him, don't what else I can do. For now he will just have to stay in his crate when I am not in the flat.
