Today my horse told me...

Vet on way back out.

Girl gone downhill again, as I suspected. Will see if second hit of buscopan helps.

Still not passed anything, always had lots of gut sounds so not twisted gut apparently,

Always happens at the weekend and on the worst night for weather, doesn't it!

Oh dear...hopefully vet will beable to give abit more advice + drugs! I know the weather is really crap but it would help if you can to walk about a little bit till the vet gets there...fingers crossed

Got everything crossed for you. Really hope the vet can pull your girl through this.
I really hate colic, it's the thing i dread the most, i lost my old girl to it after never suffering a bout of it all her life, she had a twisted gut.

Everything crossed for you. Always seems so much worse in the dark and with the weather so bad. Thoughts are with you all over the country. Xxxxx

Update,

Vet been back, more buscopan, he is happy enough, says that if she stays the same or better, no need to come back, give her a few bute in a few hours if that's the case, otherwise, call him if I am unhappy. Pulse still ok, not sweating, lots of gases but still not passed anything.

Still a very uncomfortable girl but has improved from earlier. You never know with her, she has such a high pain threashold.

She once tore the entire top of her eye lid off and stood and ate her dinner whilst vet was on way!!! Greedy girl

Anyway, just had shower so going to take a glass of wine in a plastic cup outside and watch her for a bit, see what she is like...

Does he think hse has a blockage or not? I haven't had much experience of colic, our donkey had spasmodic colic a few times and I recall the vet doing a rectal and clearing some stuff out and we had to give him a load of liquid paraffin to help lubricate his gut - do vets still have you do this these days? It always seems to do the trick anyway!

My sister's horse had had mild, gassy colic a couple of times and the painkillers and getting him walking around helped him - they need to fart/pass faeces and that's a good sign. Hope all goes well with yours! :)

Did the vet say what type of colic she has and what you can do to help her feel abit better....sounds like things are going in the right direction so that is good

He thinks it is a spasmodic colic, not twisted gut, wormed regularly as well. Discussed walking her, he says the jury is out on that one.

I was worried she had rolled a lot earlier but he said if she had twisted her gut her pulse would be above 50/60 by now and she would be showing serious signs of pain, she is doing neither, pulse about 36 and has been throughout.

Also discussed illnesses that mimic colic but since the buscopan worked its 100% in the gut, although other option is that it could be a kidney stone.

Would just like on another note to give a big high five to gypsies, yes, my neighbours have been up and down all day, texting to see how she is and offered to sit with her THROUGHOUT the night. I love them to bits. Despite having so many of their own horses they adore this girl and are genuinely concerned.

Going to leave her eating for a bit, she has now had a drink, so will go back out in 30 minutes to see what's going on.

No poo, not much change.

Just given her a sloppy feed with 3 danilon in it. (she is a big girl)

Pleased she had water and not got worse. But, until I see a poo, I won't be happy. Lots of gut sounds, amplified gut sounds, a few farts. She is still uncomfy, will check after half ten and if no change will leave it until about midnight.

Not much more I can do except keep monitoring.
Would let her wander about but can't check poo if I do that. Had a wee walk with her but it is so slippy it's just dangerous and she was getting worked up being away from her boys in the dark.

Will update after half ten.

All thoughts with you. We had this last month but came through it eventually. Such a worry, especially when vet asks if you want surgery or PTS... then you realise it's serious. Buscopan worked but it was three days before she was entirely normal.. she stayed depressed and not pooing as normal.

Everything crossed for you x
