Hi guys, I'm looking at alternative bits for my mare. At the moment she is in a mullen mouth, happy-mouth loose ring snaffle. She is a middleweight cob x and has a large tongue, and low roof to her mouth - so ideally I need a relatively thin bit which still gives her a tongue a bit of room. I hate single jointed bits and she has only been ridden in mullen mouth happy-mouth bits in the past 5 years as they were all she seemed happy with. She is perfect to jump in this, but I feel I need a bit more refinement for dressage. Flatwork really isn't her favourite thing and although she is capable of a perfectly nice dressage test, seems to like to throw every evasion at me beforehand :p Generally tho, this involves leaning on the bit, which is obviously very easy to do in her current mouthpiece. So I'd like to try the loose ring tongue saver, but wondered whether anyone else had tried it for these reasons and what their results have been?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the waffling!

You're right, i've just looked it up and its almost exactly the same as the NS Verbindend, just made with German silver instead of salox. Also is £10 cheaper (always a bonus in my book!).
Thanks!

I have the baucher for my mare - it is fab! It actually allows a smidge more tongue room than the ns as the forward shape is a little more pronounced. My mare goes v happily in it. Her mouth confirmation sounds v similar to your mare - very large sensitive tongue and low palatte (she also is very much not one to put up and shut up - any niggles she is very keen to let you know about!!). She does still lean a little in the baucher ocassionaly - logic would say try the loose ring but the movement is too much for her so she won't take the contact. Instead of leaning we just swap for a giraffe! The leaning we can remedy with light hands and riding forwards, the giraffe I seem to get stuck with! The baucher is also dressage legal, and the cheeks help just that little bit more with turning too. Fab bits, nicely made too.

Hey, thank you for taking the time to reply, It does sound like our mares have some similarities! I'm glad to hear that it has been useful for you - I think I'll give it a go. I was umming and ahhing between the loose ring and the baucher, but I think she likes a bit of play in the mouthpiece - it also helps me with her leaning. So will probs go for the loose ring and see how we get on. As she is so responsive to my seat and leg, the steering isn't an issue, I just need something that she is happy to take forwards into the contact without dragging it downwards - funny mare!
Thanks again for your opinions, you've been a great help

As usual, Im the extreme :(:(
Afraid made no difference to my horse at all, Ive tried the NS version, Mylers with ports and the Tongue Saver Baucher and he actually got his tongue over that, so Im currently in a Sprenger KK Ultra which is 14mm and although hes not cured he is slightly better.

Thanks for letting me know, Its good to hear both sides. She may well hate it - she hasn't had metal in her mouth for years, but I might give it a try anyway. Did your boy have the tendency to try and get his tongue over the bit already, or did he only try it with this bit?

Hes always drawn his tongue back, I think to release the pressure of the bit on his tongue but never really got his tongue over as I dont think that is his aim, so I was dissapointed that he did it with the tonguesaver. Hes not got it over since going to a thinner kk ultra. Its a nightmare.
