I saw this saddle on ebay and Amazon, I might at some point in the future be looking to get saddle for my round, flat backed Welsh x Clysdale. I'm not looking for anything spectacular, I want it mostly for low level showing, dressage and hacking. But obviously I want to make sure the saddle is of a decent quality and actually fits the horse, it says you can send a template of the horse in to get a better fit, however I imagine there’s no guarantee it’s going to be a perfect fit. My only other option will be getting a second saddle, but again that could also be difficult finding a saddle that fits. I haven’t got a huge budget so trying to find a cheaper alternative. What do you guys think? Is the price too good to be true?
Thoughts and opinions welcome :D
 
There's no link but if it's a cheapy one off ebay I would avoid. They are cheap for a reason and are likely to cause damage to your horses back.
 
I'm sure £200 would get you a very decent second hand English leather saddle- I always go for older ones personally, there are some great bargains to be had at the moment provided you get them checked by a saddle fitter.

Would you be able to easily return the amazon saddle if it arrived and you weren't happy with it?

I'd just be dubious as it states it's German made, but i don't think what out of (could be very cheap imported leather)?
 
As I thought it was too good to be true! I'm just hesitant after spending upwards of £1500 in the past on getting saddles professionally fitted and then after a few months don't fit (yes I know horses change shape) but the amount I paid on getting the saddler out to re-flock the saddle or tweak it was horrendous and even after that saddle had problems!
As you say hoofing-it I'd be really worried about the quality of leather! But it's re-assuring to know there are saddles about in my price range, I'm not that fussed if they're a bit old or tatty as long as it fits and does the job!

That said, I did buy a horse a number of years ago that came with a cheap-ass saddle (Indian leather I think?), I had it checked out by a professional-it was a good fit and relatively well made, if not a bit stinky and used it for years, infact it went with the horse when I sold it.

The only drawback was that it leaked dye like crazy! It was a beautiful oxblood shade that made cream jods look like you'd had a serious and rather embarrassing accident when the saddle got wet at xc.... Got round this by wearing black jods!

From what I gather tho, this is the exception and not the norm! I wouldn't go out looking for an imported saddle personally.
