top spec or lifeforce formula?

I am torn between feeding either top spec balancers and the life force formula. Anyone got any preferences?

I have two ex racers one 19 who as of yesterday has been diagnosed with arthritis in his front fetlocks and one 12 who I struggle to keep weight on in winter. I want to feed a glucosamine supplement to Fred so was looking at top spec senior and possibly the comprehensive for Marley. However I am suspecting Marley may have some kind of digestive issue when stabled at night in winter. He does not eat a lot of hay and last year became very dull and ribby despite shovelling feed in him. He is also a weaver but not horrendous.

I've heard a lot of good things about life force formula that would suit Marley and also Fred. But I have also heard good things about top spec and ideally I want to feed them the same. Would top spec help with digestive issues and get him eating hay? Do people recommend the senior for the glucosamine or am I better off with a separate supplement?

Any opinions welcome....thanks

I haven't fed lifeforce but have used the top spec balancer. My mare also has arthritis and digestive/weight issues and the senior really suited her. I have recently taken her off it to try and improve her feet further as she is barefoot and switched to pro balance and a separate joint supplement. At the minute I am regretting it as she has become more stiff again and her feet were not bad before I just felt they could be improved. It's early days with switching so I am still going to keep trying and hope to see a improvement soon. But ye I think the topspec senior was great.

I feed it to both of mine. They are big lads so I like to use a joint supplement. Whisk has digestion issues and used to lose shoes on a regular basis. Oliver has had laminitis in the past. They have been on LF for some time now and are doing really well. Whisk lost a lot of condiotion coming out of winter so I upgraded to the next level of LF. Within 4 weeks he was back to his normal rounded self. Would highly recommend. Works out cheaper than buying lots of different supplements and the container comes in handy for storage!!

I can't sing the praises of life-force enough. I saw my friends tb on Sunday and he looks fantastic on it after alot of problems. His coat was literally gleaming. Very impressed.

Another vote for lifeforce!! (Although I've not tried the topspec so can't comment on that... And frankly I'm so pleased with the LF I wouldn't risk trying anything else now!)

Mickey has had stomach ulcers in the past, and the LF seems to be the only supplement that deals with his tummy (he has had successful treatment with GastroGuard) as well as his general 'well-being' he's much happier on his LF, he looks blooming brilliant (and only gets 1/2 Stubbs scoop of chaff, and I've just started adding boswellia too (He had a stifle op in the past so wanted to give joints an extra helping hand), if he happens to be in a lot of work ill bung him some ERS pellets... But that's it with the LF. I've tried others, and fairly quickly regretted not sticking with the LF!

Another Lifeforce fan here, I've used Top Spec in the past and not noticed any difference - except to my bank balance as it was so expensive! With Lifeforce I notice a huge difference; my big lad is not on any hard feed and looks fantastic, his hooves are amazing and he's so relaxed and chilled out but still with enough energy to do everything I ask of him. I would highly highly recommend Lifeforce :)

Thanks all for the replies. I ran out of my usual feed yesterday so went in the shop next to our yard and picked up some topspec and am now thinking I perhaps will order some life force when this starts to come to an end. They are both a good weight at the moment and just want to start the right feed before the winter comes and the weight starts dropping.

Just another question has anyone ever used redhorse pure glucosamine? I was looking at this and it seems good value.

Another one for Life Force.

It has worked wonders for all of mine across a variety of issues. The most spectacular being a pony that had the vets stumped as to what was going on - apart from losing weight at an alarming rate!

Since starting LF he hasn't looked back and looks amazing. I have also used it for a pony with "horseitude". He has calmed down immensely so I thought I'd take him off it... I lasted a week! He still has "horseitude" but in a more manageable way. :D

My Friesian had irritating flaky skin and mallanders. Whilst the mallanders hasnt completely gone (had it years so will take a while to work its way out) it is definitely much improved.

In the end I have put all of mine on it. It takes the stress out of worrying that they are getting and utilising the right nutrition.

My feed bill is a fraction of the amount it was at the beginning of the year. :D :D :D

Just done my sums and I will save about £25 if I go with life force and a joint supplement when worked out price per day over 30 days. So if its better then I'll definitely swap over when the top spec is done!

xStephX - if it helps, i've popped my boy on boswellia for joints... got it from feedmark, it was a show offer but £20 for 2 months supply - i contacted them first and they sent a sample to make sure my boy would eat it. a combination of dengie hifi mollasses free, boswellia & the Lifeforce keeps him looking and behaving brilliantly!
