Thanks to all of you who gave me advice re my problems with my new Torsion. As promised here is the update:
I decided to put Fly back in his old Wintec to see if this made a difference to the erratic behaviour he had displayed since using the Torsion. As I approached him with the saddle he initially tried to edge away from me. Once I put it on his back he relaxed and there were no problems when I did up the girth. Fly was completely different on our hour and a half hack. There was no side stepping, napping, jogging on the spot or attempting to buck. He was completely relaxed and seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself. Of course, he spooked at the things all horse spook at - you know, tigers around corners, crocodiles under logs and leaves fluttering down from trees etc - so completely back to normal. Lol.
We had a lovely ride and I felt like I'd got my horse back. More importantly, I think Fly felt "I've got my mum back!"
I guess the Torsion isn't for him. It's a shame because I have to say I really like the treeless and the idea behind it (and it's sooo comfortable for me!). Bearing in mind though, I actually bought it because I wanted Fly to be as comfortable as possible so it kind of defeats the object doesn't it? One thing struck me about this - I hate the idea of any horse just accepting anything we ask of them whether it causes discomfort or not. I'm pleased that I have a horse that will let me know if something isn't right - even if he has to go to great lengths to get his point across.
Torsion anyone??
