Thanks to all of you who gave me advice re my problems with my new Torsion. As promised here is the update:

I decided to put Fly back in his old Wintec to see if this made a difference to the erratic behaviour he had displayed since using the Torsion. As I approached him with the saddle he initially tried to edge away from me. Once I put it on his back he relaxed and there were no problems when I did up the girth. Fly was completely different on our hour and a half hack. There was no side stepping, napping, jogging on the spot or attempting to buck. He was completely relaxed and seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself. Of course, he spooked at the things all horse spook at - you know, tigers around corners, crocodiles under logs and leaves fluttering down from trees etc - so completely back to normal. Lol.

We had a lovely ride and I felt like I'd got my horse back. More importantly, I think Fly felt "I've got my mum back!"

I guess the Torsion isn't for him. It's a shame because I have to say I really like the treeless and the idea behind it (and it's sooo comfortable for me!). Bearing in mind though, I actually bought it because I wanted Fly to be as comfortable as possible so it kind of defeats the object doesn't it? One thing struck me about this - I hate the idea of any horse just accepting anything we ask of them whether it causes discomfort or not. I'm pleased that I have a horse that will let me know if something isn't right - even if he has to go to great lengths to get his point across.

Torsion anyone??

So pleased that Fly is back to his old self and thank goodness you are the sort of person to listen to him! As you know, the new Torsion did not suit my mare either so they are definitely not for all horses.

Sorry the treeless did'nt work out (I have one and you are right sooo comfy, rode in a conventional saddle for the first time in ages on Boxing Day, had a very sore bum)

I am sure Fly is very pleased you listened to him and tried the old saddle again.

Interesting to hear your story.
I almost bought a torsion saddle as liked the idea too, but there's no dealer anywhere near here and I would not buy such a saddle without seeing one first.
In the end I got a Gaston Mercier which is fine for Trec etc. as had the possiblity to try that out at EquitaLyon.

So glad to hear Fly has responded well to going back to the tree'd saddle...Will you be keeping the wintec on or trying again (once you got rid of the torsion) or not? perhaps next time you could trial some before you make up your mind!! Kay humphries does the Mondial and you can hire it for a week or so, before committing to buy...my friend did this but it wasn't suited to her or her horse.. which was ok, as she hadn't bought it! Also Solution saddles you can trial in the same way...best give Fly's back a rest though first..and let her go happy in something she likes!!

I'll certainly stick to the Wintec for the time being at least. If I look into treeless again I would definitely go for a generous trial period though. I've learnt my lesson!

I would really like a nice leather saddle .... one that can age with me and mould to the shape of my bum cheeks!!! Perhaps a Bates GP would be best being as they work on the same principle and have the same fit as the Wintec.

Thanks for all your advice etc ..... my sister, Jave Jane, said you were a great bunch.
