 Hi just a quick question, i have a driving licence but passed after 1995 so i have to go through a test to tow a horse trailer, does anyone know if you can have lessons on towing? i live in north scotland.

If you pass after 1997 you have to do the test - if you passed prior to 1997 you dont so if you passed in 1996 you are fine (but I dont know if anything is different in Scotland).

Yep, you'll def need to get your E license to pull a normal sized trailer.

Loads of places do trialer training - have a look on the internet. It won't be a specific horse triailer as they usually use a smaller commercial trailer but it gives you the exact same license in the end. It's not cheap though : it usually about £500 for 3days of lessons and the test at the end.

Check the back of your photo card licence. If you have category BE on it, then you don't need to do the trailer test. I passed in 1994 and have:

B - Car
BE - Car & Trailer
C1 - up to 7.5t
C1E - up to 7.5t with trailer
D1 - Minibus
D1E - Minibus with trailer
