Towing weights can somebody please put the record straight

Ok, wimpy here. I have ensured that my car will very easily tow my trailer and horse with a lot to spare. So, car - Jeep, 3.7L, max towing weight 3.3 tonnes, trailer = Bateson Deaville - 950 (or 850) kg, horse = mw ISH 16.2 so @ 650-700kg. However, my yard is up a majorily steep hill (try 500 feet above the town), so I have never felt the urge to tow 2 large horses back up the hill and have a self imposed limit of my horse + upto 15.2. I have towed 2 big horses on the flat (motorway) with absolutely no problem. Am I being overcautious? because I cannot find anywhere which would help work out what capacity you could consider when having to negotiate steep hills! (this is what comes from having a friend who really did have her trailer pulled backwards when towing with a car..)

if its very steep you could use the low range in 4x4 then back into high when you are back on the flat, the towing weights recomended by the manufacturer assume you might make a hill start, but for your own peace of mind you could run your own trial by filling the trailer with sand bags etc to the same weight as the horses for a dry run to see if your confident to try with horses on board....if you get into trouble dont panic alow the trailer to gently jackknife into the kerb or verge...

Many thanks. It would be great if I could take someone else out (purely for selfish reasons, its much more fun!). Might struggle to try to load the trailer with enough weight for a dummy run but will certainly think about it!

Single- don't even think about it. Shocked my friend (who has just started towing herself) by gaily overtaking the queue for the dump on the hill without giving it any thought...!!!!
