towing with a mondeo and towbar advice??

the biggest thing is the speed & control of the Towing vehical.

sorry but way too many drivers tow at 50+ on straight roads with 4x4's because "its what they are disigned for"

drive carefully, read the road ahead & keep an eye on the traffic behind.

that is a fair point but you could be towing with all common sense in the world and as safe as possible but that doesn't stop an idiot trying to cut into your breaking space at a roundabout, or an animal running into the road, or a lorry passing you causing a side wind, or an accident happening right in front of you.. the list is endless.

just because you are a safe driver does not mean everyone else on the road is. (i'm not meanig 'you' because i've quoted you, i mean the general public 'you' ;) )

Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's sensible. I'd rather err on the side of caution myself.
I tow a heavy non horse trailer with a family car that could perhaps pull one of those tin can lightweight horse things, but knowing how hard it is to keep control when a heavy lorry goes past, or the wind hits you, or something happens to make you break fast I'd never risk it. Reading just how light some of these trailers are confirms my fears, and the state of the occupants when things go dreadfully wrong.
Keep safe folks, and enjoy your horses.

You've not stated which I for Williams trailer it is but mine weighs in at 897kg. Two horses is 1000kg (possibly a little more) and the towing capacity of that car is 1800kg.

So, legally you shouldn't do it. Practically, that car will probably be absolutely fine and can probably tow alot more. Sensibly, do you want to take the risk?

It's all to do with the weight of the trailer being too heavy for your car a pushing the car when you are trying to stop, especially when going down hill.

Oh and if it's a VERY early I FOr Williams it may not have brakes on it (i assume it does though) which means you can only tow about 750kg.

I have a 4 x 4 Audi and the towing capacity on that is 2000kg. I'm still not comfortable with taking two horses but will do occassionally on short distances. My trailer and 2 horses is right on the limit.

Sorry, just re-read, you said one horse. It's not ideal but it's do-able and legal. My mother used to tow 2 horse with a Maxi many years ago. Now, that was daft.

Mine isn't a tin can thing, forget what the material is but it isn't tin.Its very sensibly and well designed and provided I tow sensibly and at a sensible speed we shall be fine.
