I have had my 04 Ford Ranger from new and it has done 80k! I used to use it as an every day car but now have a little run around too! It is brilliant for towing and I have the thunder so nice and comfy inside!

its funny you should say that about a run around... we had a 07 plate thunder and now have a 10 plate. when we got the new one we decided to get a runaround to keep the miles down on the thunder. We got a c1 and its brilliant. Theres a huge difference in the way other motorists treat you in each vehicle though!

Tell me more about the new ford ranger? We're buying brand new and hadn't heard great things about them so haven't looked at them at all. I need something that hubby can use for work and that can tow - want something 3+ tonne pay load though and not going to break the bank.

we had a 07 and now a 10 plate... we will part exchange for a brand new maybe next year,
We tow a caravan and occasionally the horse box... our ranger is for business use too.
We have had them through the two really bad winters where we live and they have been amazing in the deep snow. Mechanically we have had one slight niggle which was solved under warranty... pretty minor they reccomend running with a winter fuel filter all year round.
We had the super cab first which has bench seats... this one was difficult to sell so we have opted for the saphire blue ranger double cab this time.. it will sell privately in a flash,
Ford servicing is exspensive so we use a local garage which is fine under the warranty as long as you purchase ford parts (keep the receipts) Customer service is brilliant too.
I can t sing there praises enough.... and price wise they are easy on the bank balance too!

Expensive not as well made as the old ones and poor towing capacity ...Next!!!!!!

Ours wasn't too expensive, it's a lot chaper on fuel than our TD5 and while I'll admit it's not the gutsiest, it has enough to tow small/medium sized animals in a light weight trailer (505/506) and it's the most reliable vehicle on the planet. Ours is an old one though.

love my hilux:cool: but then, im a hilux geek, cant see past them , adore her dearly and am very precious about her. Was even in the owners club. They dont have a high a towing capacity as some but perfectly adequate and legal for an Ifor505.We dont feel our trailer on at all, it tows a dream, feels safe and solid on the road and was a godsend in the bad winter - it will go anywhere, at one point we were the only ones who could get out locally although others have 4x4's. Mine is a 2006 and *touches wood frantically* I havent had to do a thing other than a new exhaust and a wiper blade.

A friend has a garage and they have Ford Rangers and really rate them, that's the other option Id consider although Im not keen on the styling, they look a little old fashioned I think.

We tow with an 58 L200, it pulls like hell when towing, you can barely feel anything is on it. However, it's horrible to drive normally I think. I do take it to the supermarket and things (have no problem parking it  then again I did use to have a horsebox lol) but its very roll-y and the suspension is too bouncy for my liking.

They do have the look but its an awful lot of money just for the look.... performance wise it has nothing to justify the extra money.

They couldn't kill it on Top Gear.;)

OH is a truck nerd, and he says that in the UK he'd either have the Defender or a Hilux.

I have simply turned into a truck snob and won't even have a Range Rover now - they are just too small and are no use on the farm, where do you put a round bale?
