Deleted, misread poster's intention on my annoyance at someone else.

completely agree.
A bit of understanding & forethought on all sides is all that's needed really to rub along OK together, the hostility doesn't help anyone. after all we all need farmers from time to time, leaving aside human food etc many of us want them to roll the field, or make some hay or take the muck away etc.

My issue is not and never has been to the tractor run, it is to the lack of notice which i was given that there was going to be one.

Notice that all the other many organised events using that road manage to give me.

I'm absolutely stunned at the hostility to a request for a simple courtesy, paid by many other organised events, that the rally should give me notice so that I can stay out of their way and let them enjoy the road without them worrying about my safety if they had met me.

Very sorry Neddy Man, I was in defensive mode about Scruffyponies post when I read yoursv and added yours to my reply to her.

Anyone can just about anything at anytime as long as its tax and insured, it could be a fire engine, or just a very large lorry, followed by another large lorry, or the skip lorry for the local tip, and we just have to be prepared for anything, most traffic is unplanned.
We lived in a village that was a rat run, a main bus route, and cut in half by a dual carriage way, and you just learn to work out where your refuges are, if you need them, and if there aren't any, consider is it safe to ride along that road.
We have lived mainly on the outskirts of large towns and cities, and although I would never consider any horse bomb proof, mine would stand at the traffic lights, while I would wait for the lights to change to turn right, with traffic passing both sides. The horses in Newmarket, a few of the stables front directly on to the High Street, next stop, Greggs. I was amazed when someone backed a two year old in the concrete yard, and then its straight out on the road, not something I would even think of doing, but for them its needs must.

Surely tractor runs etc are posted on local FB pages and in local shops/on posts? .

We are 5 miles from a shop and for the sake of my mental health I do not use social media except when absolutely essential and this forum. There is no Facebook group for that part of the countryside, the houses are too dispersed to form a big enough community.

We have got home today and there is a new pink arrow on the signposts at the top of the road. This means that at the weekend there will be a rally of some kind. It's all that was needed.

there was an item on the local news last night where villagers were complaining about lorries using the road, the footage was including a stock wagon, a feed truck (so you might guess accessing a farm), various vans etc and a bus (on a planned route presumably).
It was presented as though the drivers were doing something wrong. sadly for the village unless they get the route restricted to large vehicles then it's too bad! not sure why it was newsworthy, there's enough else going on.

Agree with you YCBM. I am fortunate to have a pony that is fantastic in traffic, but she got stressed at 57 Harley Davidson's passing her and we were not trapped on a narrow road. She does all forms of traffic but a convoy of noisy motor bikes is a different prospect. It is just having a warning.

just wondered how they meet the other drivers in this tractor rally considering they are in a tier 3..............all stayed in their cabs?

but on another note the majority of people on this thread are suggesting that a bit of forward thought would have prevented this whole thread from starting in the first place............
