trailer test

I did my trailer test in October last year, was terrified! but despite my nerves on the day I managed to pass :) My advice would be to keep calm and practice the reserving part lots as that's where most fail. Good luck :)

i did mine a couple of weeks ago. Just practice everything. They are observation mad so just constantly observe mirrors etc whilst driving! its tedious but has to be done. I did my test in taunton and the examiner was horrid! you have to do a reverse manovure, your drive and coupling and uncoupling exercise. I got my reverse spot on each time i practiced and then on the test day i nearly stuffed it up! there was a slight slope on the area marked for the manovure so it rolled away so i lost alot of ground. you can shunt forward twice tho! just dont let your nerves get to you, mine got to me and i very nearly screwed up!

has anyone done there test lately i am doing mine next week and am slightly scared as to what to expect does anyone got any advice !

My friend took her last week and failed! not for driving, apparently her driving was very good. She dropped the jockey wheel when she was unhitching! Such a stupid thing! she is really annoyed with herself.

Apparently they will fail you for things like that. So make sure you do all the 'silly bits' by the book.

Good Luck, Hope you pass! :)

i was told by my instructor the only thing you will fail on here is not having the handbrake on securing the trailer, other than that it doesnt matter what order you do things in, did your friend drop the wheel before applying the handbrake? Id imagine thats more why she failed?

i did mine today, and failed :o:(

I can do the reverse perfectly in the area my instructor has marked out, I thought it would be exactly the same at the test centre but despite doing it exactly the same way and lining up the mudguard with the yellow line in my mirror as a marker, I was too far back and bumped the barrier:o So my advice is stop just before you get where you think is right and get out and check incase you arent quite where you think you are.

You will fail on the silliest of things!! they are really strict on recoupling procedure! i very nearly failed, well i should have failed! but as i did everything else so well he gave me the benefit of the doubt! i didnt put the break away cable on before taking the handbrake off! he gave me the 3rd degree on how my trailer has rolled of down the road blah blah! there is only one way to couple up blah blah! but he still passed me amazingly!

Always use your get out of jail cards! i marked up my mud guards with the line and got out and checked and i was in but you could argue it so i nudged it back a tiny bit more to make sure i was definatly in! the whole test is a load of B**ll*x! you should have to take compulsory lessons and have some sort of certificate but the test is pointless!

well failed its so hard not the trailer bit the stupid driving bit mirrors etc round abouts done it in peterborough its horrendous still always next time

well i done a day and a half course with test at end of half day they relaxed about how you reverse IE look round and were your hands are etc but they ultra hot on mirrors and roundabouts road positioning etc its by no means easy

Thats not very long to be practising with an instructor, i did three days and the test at 1pm on the third day, i went to an air drome and practiced the reverse and coupling and uncoupling for four hours and from 9-5 on both days i did nothing but driving around city centres doing possitioning on roundabouts/road, mirros, indication etc! i did it from 9am on the third day right up untill my test, it was drilled into me!
Just plenty of practice and maybe a different company to do it with next time and youl be fine!
