Finally sold my boy and happy with where he was going. As he was going to a friend, I agreed to organise the transport to the UK. All going well, arranged transport and he was collected. was very worried about him cos the only time he was in a lorry before was when I bought him and he was delivered to me. the idiots had loaded him onto a lorry and transported him over 100 miles with no partitions on country roads. He was only a baby and was terrified when he got to me. So they collected him and the agreement was door to door. He was supposed to arrive on monday or tuesday depending on the ferries. I didn't hear anything by tuesday so decided to leave it till wed morning and call my friend to see if he had arrived. I came in to a mail from her saying that the transporters had called them on the tuesday and had refused to deliver the horse door to door! they would only deliver him to servises off the motorway and that it would be at 4am! My friend got up at 3, drove with the trailer to the services and did the swap over. the driver refused to budge on the price (it was cash on delivery) and basically she had the option of pay what he wanted or not get the horse! She didn't want any more stress on my poor boy so she paid it and got him home and settled. His condition has dropped and it looks like they didn't feed him from when they collected him (6 days).

i will never use that transport company again even though they came highly recommended. My boy is getting back to himself and will be none the worst for the experience but it shouldn't have happened. The agreement was door to door, he wasnt rushing to meet the ferry back or anything like that. He just couldn't be bothered leaving the motorway and doing the delivery.

Maybe i am just being over sensitive here but just be warned about transport companies!

thats horrendous!!

i know this is a public forum so not the place but personally i would NAME & SHAME them

might help prevent the same happening to other people , make a formal complaint to them & tell everyone you know , the truth ( stick to it ) is not slander

Absolutely, couldn't agree more! Do you have anything in writing? a signed contract/letter of agreement? write and complain to managing director, it's always possible that he doesn't know that the driver did this???!!!

Good luck and keep us posted!

What a good horse for getting off 1 lorry at an unknown place, at 4am and then walking straight onto another trailer!

Arseholes - sorry!

I know, what a good boy he was. we estimate he must have been about 10 hours on the lorry. He must have been dying to get off there and to load straight up onto a trailer in a car park, such a good boy and he is only 3 and a half! also, my friend said that he went straight for a drink when he got in and when she gave him his breakfast he gorged. he couldn't get enough water and food into him. poor baby boy.

I haven't a leg to stand on. i have no contract with them as it was all arranged over the phone. And i faxed the details to them. I have nothing in writing from them. i am just so lucky that my baby horse was going to a very good home and that my friend looked after him from that end.

I haven't contacted the company since I found out what happened as it wouldn't serve any purpose to do so. As far as they are concerned, the horse is gone from their yard and lorries and they have their money.

If anyone is planning to transport horses though, feel free to PM and I will give you the name, other than that, I have told everyone i know here what has happened as they know how difficult it has been to let my boy go and they all know him.

he is doing well now though and is in a loving home.

thanks for the support, i knew I wasn't over reacting!!!!

Is this a properly licensed and registered transport company? It doesnt sound like it.

If it is you should have recourse throguh something like a hauliers association or the equivalent of DEFRA.

yes it is a properly licenced equine haulage company. i don't want to say too much about them as I don't want to be accused of defamation.

i am not looking for any compensation from them. i just thought it was really bad form what they did. i mean over an average cost per mile it would result in a compenation of about £15! Its not worth it. just want to let people aware these things can happen.

Thats awful, I run a company that hires out Horseboxes and have never heard of anything so negligent.

That truly is horrific, not just for you but your poor boy. With any luck he will of forgotten the experience and be at his new home.

If you prefer not to name and shame I would at least report what has happened to the relevant licensing body. You may not be the first to make a complaint.
