Transporting horse from Cyprus to US. Realistic?! Please advice!

Hi,

I was looking for a way to get my gelding for the last year.

The Larnaca-Amman-Heathrow flight does not exist it seems. People have heard about it, but no one could give me a concrete details of how to get it.
I called Royal Jordanian Airline, they couldn't help.
For now the only way to transport my horse is by sea to Greece, then again by sea to Italy and then by road to Amsterdam or London.
I contacted the equine transportation agent in Greece who is apparently the best to transport horses to/from Cyprus.
It was recommended by international equine transportation companies as well as local people in Cyprus.

As for me I decided to leave my darling here. Not because of a hell of a trip as mush as of fear that he won't adjust to drastic climate & environment change in his age.
Freezing temperatures, snow and a long time in a stable turned-in won't make him happy I am afraid.

Thanks for the info Sasha, I know same here - everyone seemed to know about this flight over there but haven't been able to find anything myself! I have spoken to Yiannis who was very helpful, but after speaking to a vet I'm back to worrying about the trip being too long. She did suggest getting him to Greece on the ferry and then trying to get him a flight from there which is what I'm looking into now.

Sorry you have to leave him behind in the end, I did as well and know the feeling. It does sound like you're doing the right thing for him though, lots of luck with your relocation too!
 
Surely if you get him to Greece it will be a lot cheaper to get him to uk overland there are lots of transporters who travel all over europe. For example http://www.eta.uk.com/ who actually list cyprus on their website.
From personal experience I can recommend them highly as they have done 2 long trips for me in the past.
 
yeah he can go overland but it's an awfully long trip and not without risks, flying him over would save him a week or more of travelling and be much better for him. Thanks for the recommendation, I've spoken to several companies including ETA but so far Yiannis seems to be the only one doing the overland trip.
