Travel boots or not

Off to Ireland on Friday for the irish pony club mounted games competition. Travelling our pony with two others in a lorry. Normally he travels in a trailer on his own and with company but with no travel boots. Should I put travel boots on for this journey? Don't even know if he has ever worn them. Worried he may get trodden on by one of the other ponies or maybe go down in the lorry. Any advice welcome.
 
I would bandage or put brushing/over-reach boots on all round for this journey and introduce him to travel boots once he is home and settled.
 
Apart from protection for injury i always feel legs should be allowed to keep cool naturally, 6 of one half a dozen of the other, have fun

That was what I was worried about. We have a set of premier equine boots which he competes in but I always take them off as soon as he finishes to let his legs cool so he could have travelled in those. I'm worried enough taking him across the sea, just one more thing to worry about. Together with will he be too hot, will he get dehydrated etc etc.

I would never travel my horses without protecting their legs
 
Would only travel without boots if horse was unshod.

There are exercise or stable wraps that aren't as bulky as travel boots that might do the trick? Esp. if you go for the more expensive vented type ones. I would definitely put over-reach boots on.
