What would you travel in atm, in this temperature?

For TB lad who feels the cold, doesn't ever hot up travelling etc, 2 hour journey or so.

I travelled in a fleece at weekend, my horse does get hot and he was fine. Friends fully clipped horse had a fleece on too. We had all the windows open and they were fine. Lots of horses at the comp were coming off wagons with hw full necked stable rugs on!

For a fully clipped horse who doesn't hot up travelling, yesterday she wore a thermatex to travel and then had an extra stable rug put on as soon as we arrived.

Do horses generally get hot when travelling? What makes them get hot when they are not moving around?
Im asking as my friend said it was ok for me to travel my mare in her turnout rug but she got very sweaty. Wont be doing that again.

I would use a thermatex or wool rug with a sheet underneath it. they have to use their muscles for staying balanced and the warmth they build up is partially trapped by the trailer or lorry they are in so no heavy rugs are needed although I would take something else to put on if the horse was going to be standing around the other end.

From experience I would say that turnout rugs increase sweating when travelling.

Last cold snap took pony out in the lorry she wore 3 fleeces but shes an exellent traveller doesnt hot up at all, plus shes fully clipped legs and everything. When its warmer she only has 2 on. I do take a stable rug for when we arrive. I like to put 3 thinner ones than 1 thick oneas if there was a problem ie breakdown or any other problem and she did get hot stressed at least rather than having to go in and swap rugs i would just have to whip the top one off, although thats never happened.

Eeekkkkk!

My TB to travel in winter wears.........
Magnetic rug and/or summer sheet
Full proper Whitney blanket
Wool rug over the top

Plus tail bandage, quarter guard and tail guard

Oh and boots/bandages underneath travel boots

Spoilt lil cold pony???!!! :D

Quite a variety then!

Thanks :)

His TO rug is extremely HW so won't be keeping him in that, but only really have a stable sheet for him otherwise. Might just keep him in his hoody and that sheet and put HW rug on at the other end.

Baby coblet can go natural naturally.
