Travelling Equipment

I've just bought a new pony and he's being transported to my yard. The woman i've bought him from said he's never worn boots before. I always travelled my horses with boots or bandages on, leather headcollar everything. I don't want to stress him out with something he's never experienced before. Should i risk travelling without being that he may travel better as he won't be stressed or would you always put boots on? My last pony arrived without boots on but i always used them.

I would get him delivered without boots on and then once he has settle in with you gradually start introducing them, one boot at a time. I wouldn't travel him in them until he is completely happy wearing (and walking in) them.

Charlie acted really badly when I put boots on him for the first time whereas Millie didn't bat an eyelid, they all react differently.
 
Ive had horses arrive with no boots on before and after my last horse arrived with a lump on the side of his leg which never really went down (he smacked it on the ramp on the way in I believe) then I would always ask for them to travel him in gamgee and bandages - most horses seem ok travelling in these as they're far more flexible than boots. But then you have to trust the other people to put the bandages on well....
 
If your not sure how they'll react to travel boots you could always travel in brushing boots and overreach boots, as it'll offer a bit more protection than no boots
 
Trouble is i'm getting him transported (my lorry is off the road) and i won't be able to be there when he's loaded and also have no way of getting boots or bandages to him. When i sold my ponies i lost all my bandages when they went to their new homes. Would you ask the owner to part with some travel boots/bandages in this case??

I would ask the current owners to put something on him at least, she could always take them off after he arrives or offer a couple of quid to buy them off her.
